Blood trailing deer in Wisconsin!

Just an FYI for all you bow hunters out in Wisconsin only(Illegal in Mn) trailing wounded deer with the aid of a dog is legal in Wisconsin and it works.

Yes it does. I have an old friend with a beagle that has tracked and successfully recovered every deer they went after. Wish there were more people that took advantage of this.

I have a beagle as well he found a nice 7 point this fall that the guy gave up on and was calling it a lost cause. Found the buck not 75 yards from the last blood.

i t hink its a good idea, i think it might get a bad name when people think of it as chasing deer with dogs like they do out east

as long as the dog is required to be on leash, I don't see a lot of harm in it.

It would be nice to be able to use a dog for tracking but way too many would try and chase deer while they say they are tracking a wounded deer.

I am sure thats why it is not legal here in Minnesota.

If only MN could learn from its neighbors, think of all the mature deer we could be tracking with our dogs at our sides.

Hopefully we can get a similar law change here in Minnesota. Until then there will be lots of folks 'grouse hunting' in the areas they wounded deer.

I brought this up 2 years ago on here, I'd rather have a hunter find and tag what they got then to continue on shooting more, I think leashed of course and I don't think people would bend the law much, if they did it would be on the last day of the season, you really want your lab or whatever lifting his leg on every sappling on your 80 ? Small parcel Minnesota if I see one off leash it might take on a 180 core-lokt so people would be darn careful if they love their pet.

Its amazing what a dog can do, as anyone who has coon, bear, pheasant, etc hunted knows. I'll be working with my lab this summer for fall deer season.

In Wisconsin the hunting party can't have any weapons on them. We have found more than one deer, and hope to spread the word about the use of the dog. Any one hunting in the pierce or st croix county area send me a message and i will track any legaly harvested deer.

I use a beagle, although I have heard of others using labs, hounds, and terriers.
