How do you keep mice out of your camper??

For the first time in 6 years we were de-winterizing the camper last night and found mouse droppings is the camper. frown Our usual practice in the past was to take all food and bedding out, put dryer sheets throughout, and we've been good to go. Not this year frown

I did notice that the cooking stuff and toaster was still in the camper, was wondering if there was enough food smell there to attract them...

How do you keep mice out of your camper over winter? Anything that you can put around the outside to deter them? Any ideas where they might be getting in? Was thinking about putting one of those automatic mouse traps inside and outside - would that help?

i do dryer sheets and have never had a problem. As for a trap...i'd be wary, you would need to check it on a regular basis, otherwise the smell will be bad!!! I also put moth balls under and around it, mines in a hay shed, just 2 sides and a roof. I also have a farm cat, and I think that helps alot!!

shave one side and light the other on fire, oh wait different rodent. I would think the moth balls would work but if the mice are finding a way in, finding that spot might be important. i too would not use traps or poison simply because they may die off inside and then you have to deal with that mess. i would also look at the wiring to make sure they have not chewed off the insulation. i hate mice.

A few drops of "Oil of Peppermint" on cotton balls will repel mice. There will be a strong peppermint odor left behind however.

Where do you find oil of peppermint? Might try that, always leery of mothballs, don't want my dogs eating anything poisonous.

I also use dryer sheets in the inside and moth balls on the outside. I also spray foamed any open spot that they can get into. I have not had a problem yet......knock on wood

I plan on crawling under to see if I can find where the little devils are getting in. We had problems last year with the tank sensors, had them replaced by the local dealer, wondering if they didn't seal things up right??!

Will mice chew thru spray foam??

I used the foam in my house when I was having trouble with mice. They were going through the foundation blocks from the garage and getting into the laundry room. It seems to have worked. Some people plug holes with tinfoil. Guess they don't like to chew on that.

we have used steel wool to shove in the holes they wont eat it either. use to have mouse problem at the fire station. mice would get into the lockers because the ff where keeping protein powder and bars in their lockers. pretty funny to see one of those huge jugs with a hole eaten in the side of it and the powder missing. had some very strong mice running around

My dad put the dryer shhets in his rv for the winter. Next spring he pulled it out he looked in a drawer where the dryer sheet was and there was 3 mice. My dad said "they had gathered a couple other dryer sheets and had made pillows and blankets out them for everyone". He now uses the peppermint oil seems to work pretty good.

"Oil of Peppermint" is different (somehow) than "Peppermint oil". I went to a healthfood store and asked for it only becasue they appeared to have about 3,000 different kinds of supplements in there. It was about $4 and 3 drops on a cotton ball is plenty.

Thats what I did. I crawled underneath and spray foamed around all the lines going in and any small cracks. They have not chewed through any of it as of yet.

I just was talking to someone refarding mice. So because of my lack of memory work with me..... I was told to either sprinkle baking soda or corn starch ( that is the part I cant remember) all around your camper or house foundation. Then you can see where they are entering. ? However in the winter I am not so sure how that would work....?

I've never had a problem even the winters when my garage was overrun and I'll owe that to bird feed. Best advice is to clean your rig and no food left behind, including your stove or anywhere there might be grease or crumbs. Never failed that the hunting shack stove would be full of bed fluff. If they don't smell something they're not likely to try to get in.

Drier Sheets all over, Steel Wool in any holes, Mothballs in cups like spray paint caps or something just all over the place and you can always do the Irish Spring Soap cut in to chunks and left all over and then the Oil Of Pepermint good luck on keepint them out another thing that works well is to just kill em all so they dont get in ha ha ha

A couple years ago we had an older motorhome and mice problems. Went through the whole underneath with can of expanding foam and pretty much any place I could poke the nozzle in got a bit of the foam. We also put bars of Irish Spring deodorant soap in likely spots where mice would hang out and no more mice. Not sure which one did the trick.
