Minnkota Trolling Motor?

jltimm

Question

My trolling motor went to heck on me this year. Last year I thougt it was loose battery connections, and it would work intermittently, but this year just a slight turning of the prop and a quiet hum from the top of the motor? Took it apart and found nothing and it doesn't work at all? Any suggestions, or is it ready for the garbage?

Are you sure your batteries are good? Batteries that have no reserve capacity left will do that do a motor. I'd suggest having your batteries load tested, or trying your motor with known good batteries, before you move on to possible motor issues. Good luck getting it figured out.

See you're in Mora....

Prince Bait on 169 just north of Milaca does Minn Kotas.

They rebuilt one for me a year or 2 ago...new seals, polish armature..etc. Right around $100 and really good guys in my experience.

I can recommend them without hesitation.

mine acted like that, then it would hum on top without any movement from the prop; brought it in a shop in bemidji and they told me it wasnt worth fixing; it was a min kota camo -believe it is 52lb thrust; took the prop off and threw it in the garbage. the guys at the shop were Richards and always have been, i wouldnt trust them again

I had a 65lb maxxum where it would work intermittently (I thought the pedal was going out), brought it to motor clinic and it turned out it needed a new circuit board, was told you cant just replace the pedal in the maxxum's. Cost me like $280 frown
