Teamers.........

How long has everyone been after the king of the spring??

I killed my first gobbler in 1983 here in Idaho. Since then chased them in MS,LA,TX,MO,NM,MT,WA,OR......if you are just getting started beware the barbed hook of this sport!

Let's pick a name and get after them. I'll hunt Idaho (2 possible birds) and Oregon.

Our youth season starts April 8 & we adults start April 15-May 25. All over the counter general tags. Best of luck to everyone.

Just looked at leftover tags for WI and there is a bunch left for the last season in my zone so I'll be picking one up.

Experience wise I haven't hunted as much as wallydog but my first bird was around '96. Since then I've tallied up 16 with 13 of them being mature toms, two hens, and a fall bird that had grown a 7" beard since his stub bearded jake days earlier in the year.

The first season I have this year will probably allow me to hunt for myself on Wed then focus on getting my buds two boys birds. If they fill up then I can try filling my tag - always the possibility of a double in there as well. Ideally I'll have a bird by the second day of May and be looking to upgrade in three weeks, although that last season I'll only be able to hunt Sat and Sun.

Someone can step up and pick a team name, anything is fine.

Strut Stoppers

Boss Gobblers

This will be my third year going after them. I have yet to get one in my attempts. Any advise on getting one would be greatly appreciated. I like the names Strut Stoppers and Gooble Getters.

Im not sure yet if my grandpa is sitting with me again this year or if im going after them by myself. I will be hunting in area 443, not sure what season yet though.

What is the pressure like where you'll be hunting? If its public or lots of people will be hunting it I'd go for an earlier season. If not I to hunt at the very beginning of May - usually the underbrush has enough leaves to give you some cover. Its tough to move in close, sometimes to move at all, early in the season with so little cover.

Other than that once you figure out when you'll be hunting the best thing is to spend as much time out scouting as you can, and the closer to your season the better.

Hey Team 1 it is elevatorguy finally checking in and I got some bad news. I won't be able to compete with you guys this year. My wife went in on March 16 with some complications to her pregnancy. And on March 22nd our daughter was born at 25 weeks. She has been quite the fighter at weighing in at only 12 ounces at birth. So my turkey hunting this year has been put on hold. Our little girl is in the NICU at St. Marys here in Duluth. And it will be quite awhile that she has to be here. But all in all she is doing remarkable as she is the smallest baby weight wise they have ever seen. So good luck everbody and knock down some turkeys for me!

And if anyone is interested in her story we do have a caring bridge HSOforum for her and the link is

Sorry to hear the bad news but its great to hear she's doing well. My cousin had a premature that was very small - they sent a pic and her little fist fit inside his wedding ring. She's about 2 now and bouncing around like nothing ever happened. Best wishes to you and the family. You take care of them and we'll worry about the turkeys!

Sorry to hear that Elavatorguy you and your family will be our familys thoughts and prayers

My thoughts exactly. Some things are more important than even turkey hunting.
