Quick release bracket for bow mount motors

norma

Recommended Posts

In the process of rigging my Alumacraft Trophy 185, time for a bowmount. Just picked up a Terrova I-Pilot, is this a usefull accessory or does it just make less work for a thief?

I plan to have a custom cover made for my boat so I will not need to remove it for trailering or storage. Opinions please.

I have a quick release on mine and what I did, was drill a hole thru both the slide on the motor and the bracket on the boat and then padlock it. I did this because my cover does not fit over the motor but at times I wanted to leave it mounted to the boat. Four years and still counting. One other thing, if I want to switch to another boat, it is easy.

My bracket came with a place for a pad lock.

Mine, too.

I like being able to take mine off when I run the river at night. It gives me a better view of what's in front of the boat (I have a tiller boat) and eliminates any blockage of my red/green navigational lights.

My dad's got one. I'm not a huge fan of it. It tends to let the motor vibrate more than if it were on the bow directly when pointing in a certain direction. Maybe it's just not a higher quality one.
