Stores - Where to go

Only thing I love about gander that they sometime had a " stupid" cashier. They once charged me 30 dollars for Beckmann net when it's retail 100!

That does happen and they are notorious for miss marking prices.

A good rule of thumb on those transactions is to try as hard to give the money back as you would to get the money back.

What if that cashier had accidentally charged you $170?

I think we are very lucky to have a state of the art muskie pro shop here,,,theres not many in the world,,Thornes, Reeds up north and the rest far into Wisc. I too live south but will always make the drive to Thornes they support the Minnesota muskie world big time with donations and at cost deals to Muskies inc chapters theres more muskies swimming in Tonka and White bear because of the deals they have givin the TC chapter for merchandise to be raffled for our rearing fund. 10% discount on baits for MI members goes a long way if you load up on cowgirls and pounders,,,Id hate to have to rely on a franchise store for muskie tackle,,

Have you tried Joes Sporting goods? They have a great selection of Musky gear all the popular rods, reels, baits. Plus there staff and customer service are top notch! They are the only place in the metro I have found to do an instore exchange on a broken StCroix rod.

Give them a try!

SScarve... Ideal place to open up your own muskie shop would probably be a stone throw from your home on 98th and Lyndale where there used to be a Burgers' Brothers store... (Yeah Gander Mtn took over that location later in the late 90's before they closed that location down) As far as I know its vacant... so if you're serious... check that out!!! I know as every time I drive by that location, I cant help but drool about it, day-dreaming about owning the perfect Muskie Shop anywhere possible...

As for shopping... Aaron at Muskie Tackle Online gets my #1 vote... He tries his hardest, which is usually more than 110%... has excellent customer rapport... and nope Im not getting paid to say this!!! LOL

But in a pinch, if I needed something ASAP like within a hour, I'd stop at FF if Im heading south... TB if Im heading north...

Get Rollie and Helen's catalog and forget store shopping if you know what you want. I like how they operate, they'll take the cordless phone up and down the aisles for ya if something is sold out or something and hook you up with a lure of equal value or whatever, they've treated me right for many many years.

Scott and Dudeness-

I've known you each too long to think that either of you deserve any type of friendly customer service....anywhere. May I remind you of FF many years back and the "inter-changeable" dilemma. I won't bring up anymore of those halarious memories, but you know what I'm talking about. Karma!

Seriosly though, I'm with everyone else who says that the online avenues are the way to go. TB and GM are terrible. Yeah, TB might have a great selection but the attitudes on many of those guys is bad enough to make me never want to drop another dime in that place.

I regularly visit TB but when I first started going there I did get a bit of the "record store elitist" vibe from some, but definately not all, of the staff so I can see that perception being out there.

However, with that being said, I have never had a problem that they have not gone the extra mile to fix and I have always left 100% satisfied with my purchases and experience. Heck the other night we had a lot of great help trying to find a certain color of a bait which was not on the racks but was in one of the numerous boxes that had just come back from a sportshow. They really went the extra mile to help us find what we were looking for.

rebel, I am just a stone throw from there (lyndale -106th), and do remember that old Burger Bros, the FF is where i go, now.

DOHKAY, you are right, I dont deserve good service, I cant believe i am even a loud in these stores. Since you know us, I am guessing you are no better. Dudeness did have that inter-changeable problem too.

I dont know what it is about TB. I have mentioned my problems already. They do have a few very friendly guys in there as well though. There has just been so many times where i have just sat there and listened to them interact with one guy and then the next. I have seem them pry spots out of guys, give them to the next guy as their own, and then talk down to the next guy.

I played dumb with one of them one time. When i heard him doing this. The lake they were talking about happened to be my own. After a guy told him about his good luck there. He gave me directions to my lake that were about 60 miles the opposite way. But he said he had been there so many times, and had hammered the crappies the weekend before.

Just annoyed with them I guess.

TB does have knowledgeable and helpful guys there, but I have had similar negative experiences as explained above.

Scott- you could say that I'm not to proud of some things I've done in the past. But like you and Dudeness, I'm a pretty good guy these days. However I believe we have to put in a few more years of good behavior to make up for those adolescent years of dip-s***ness.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
