Strikemaster Auger question

FishingRebel

Question

I recently purchased a Strikemaster Lazer Pro ice auger a few weeks ago. I had no problems drilling the ice with it before today. However, today, I only drilled 8 holes, but with those 8 holes, as the auger blade reached the bottom of the ice, it had trouble drilling through the bottom part of the ice smoothly. Often times, auger couldnt drill through at all and was stuck. I would have to lift up the auger and put it back down to drill it again before it was able to break through the ice. Is this normal for Lazer Blades? I thought with Lazer Blades, I would be able to drill the ice from top to bottom smoothly without having to lift the auger up and setting it back down while drilling?

I had the same issue with mine and eventually broke a gear in the gear box, took it to big lake under warranty and they fixed the gear box and gave me a new auger bottom and adjusted the angle of the blades. thats the critical part. they have a jig to do it and I have no issues with it since. cuts thru ice like it was butter. and so did my parter with a older auger, took it to them and them put new blades on and it works like a charm.

Another strikemaster lazer question: I have an 8" lazer with two blades. Is the chipper blade a lot better? Could I replace the shaft with one with a chipper blade? Which type of blade do you guys prefer? I have had some trouble with keeping my blades sharp. I replaced with new blades last March and I hit some dirt or someting Saturday and they are dull again. My fault for sure, but just wondering if the chipper blade would last longer or cut better. The individual dual blades are getting so expensive and I have not had good luck at all with reconditioned blades. Looking for economy here too so don't know if buhying a new shaft with chipper blades would even be cost efficient at all. Thanks. P.S. never had any trouble getting through all the way when the blades were sharp.

I just had my Lazer Mag into Strikemaster in Big Lake on the way up north last Friday for the exact same issue. It was brand new, so it was frustrating to use this year. Cy at Strikemaster had it fixed and ready in less than 10 minutes. There were 2 things causing the issue: the pitch of the blades was too agressive (causing the binding), and the motor wasn't turning enough RPM's at the bottom of the hole to break through. He adjusted the pitch and motor and I was on my way. I drilled close to 50 holes over the weekend, and it works perfectly now. Another kudos to Strikemaster for their outstanding customer service.

mine lazer mag will catch at the bottom of the hole unless you let off pressure and let the machine go through the ice gently rather than me applying alot of pressure. I watched both of my buddies struggle this weekend with my auger at the bottom of the holes and then I grabbed it and drilled 3 holes with no problem
