?Oil mess on strikemaster augers?

Mike Stark

Question

i have oil krud coming out of my auger...its coming out of the hole where the smoke comes out and the bolts as well....i thought once i switched to amsoil that the issue would go away...but it has not...im running about 75:1..and im getting oil krud all over my gear.

what can i do? also what is the best way to clean the krud off?

thanks,

mike

Yep use carb cleaner and a rag. It should of at least got better after switching to amsoil i would have thought. Beings one is using much less oil. Maybe the residue is left over from the old oil and muffler is still cleaning out.

I might be over-thinking this one but you say its coming out from under the bolts as well? Which bolts? The ones holding the muffler/exhaust manifold on?

You may have a bad seal and not have enough back pressure for the engine to run at its peak and its not allowing as much oil to burn off.

Do these mufflers have fiberglass insulation inside of them? It might be oil soaked and need replacing.

But like was already said a little oil residue is common for a two stroke, if it starts getting or is obnoxious, you may need to change something up. (Oil/fuel ratio, new muffler, spark plug, etc.)

A normal auger should only spit oil when running and maybe a drip or two afterwards. If its leaking out when stored, and leaving a puddle I would definetly replace the muffler or atleast clean it out.

Probably got some left over stuff from the other oil, rarely do I see any black stuff using amsoil but I'm running closer to 100-1. If you have a single hole exhaust muffler it may take awhile for it to clean itself out. Like the others said just wipe er' off with a rag while warm, or WD40 on a rag if its cold

Take the bit off, Start it up and let it run for about a half hour to burn the old oil out the the exhaust system. I set mine over a bucket half full of water to hold it down, crank the idle up a bit and let er buck...

The idea behind letting it run for a half hour is to get the engine good and hot to enable it to burn all the junk out of it. If you are like me and most others while you may put some time on it every Winter but it's done in short bursts and it never gets a chance to get good and hot and burn off the deposits.

when season over take muffler off let it soak or spray the [PoorWordUsage] outa it with brake cleaner or carb cleaner or some type of solvent. this will get rid of the heavy deposits, and im gona try and use my torch to see if i can burn the [PoorWordUsage] outa my muffler at the end of the season

Its probably left over old oil crud getting pushed out. Run the Amsoil at 90-100:1 and you will see a big difference. I have ran my Nils at 90-100:1 for 5 or 6 years and no issues.

If it stuill doesnt get better take it apart, spray with cleaner and put a new muffler assembly on. I had a strikemaster and Jiffy that once they got full of crud it was almnost impossible to keep clean. I put new mufflers on them and changed to Amsoil and they were much better.

I think Casey is still running that Strikemaster.

Mike,

Are the exhaust bolts (two of them) loose? If they loosen up even a little, oil will leak out out pretty bad from the bolt area and between the exhaust and the motor. Grab the muffler and see if it will wiggle at all, or just tighten up thew bolts a little.
