BLACKJACK
You catch a fish and you're pulling it up and next thing you know your line is wrapped around the transducer and cord and you lose the fish. When I'm in my portable I will drill two holes close together, one to fish out of and one for the transducer. Thats works ok but in the big house theres no room for two holes.Whats your trick to keep the fish from wrapping around the transducer? olbaidhh
I use these plastic sheath type cylinders that I put down the hole, that have a space for the transducer to go up against the ice, then protected by this sheath... can't remember the name of it but they work well. I will try and find a pic.
Chef
I always pull mine on a fish that matters and I use a 10" drill.
Deitz Dittrich
if I am just fishing panfish, then I dont worry about it.. Just take your time, it will still happen some times.. If I am bigger fish fishing, then I will pull the ducer out of the hole while fighting the fish. Dont let the ducer hang as low helps.. make sure its slightly above the ice depth level. Same here the other thing I would say is don't let it float in the middle of the hole, keep it pulled to the side so its not as easy for the fish to go around. Jim Uran
If I take my time and reel slow it lowers the amount of tangles, otherwise I just reach down and pull it out.. not that hard!
JBL21
I usually cut the trasducer cord with a side cutter. Moon Lake Refuge
Bob Clausen2
AND I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!! I buy shrink tubing in 100' rolls to make my cord repairs. I now have to drill-by-side holes since my ducer cord is 5" thick
Fever
JB, now that's funny. I hope someone doesnt read that and actually do it.... Anyway, yeah, if you feel the fish is bigger and it feels that it may have some value just bend over and pull your ducer out of the hole. If your catching all smaller pannies then just take your time and be sure to have the cord next to the side of the hole. Like previously stated - It will happen from time to time but you can limit it by just paying attention to the little things. The more you horse a pan fish the more it spins in circles too. tsande00
I usually crank my rod down close to the hole, then pull out the ducer as I lift back up on the rod as to not allow any slack. I've lost fish both by tangling up in the 'ducer and reaching down to get the ducer out of the hole and accidentally allowing slack in the line. TSchultz
I bring along my 1911 .45 ACP, and shoot a round down the hole. Don't try to actually hit the fish since you don't want to ruin any meat (There's enough heavy metals in our fish the way it is). The shockwave from the bullet is more than enough to stun them. Then just reel up your catch, no more messy tangling in the transducer cord.
Bob Clausen2
TSchultz. I used to do something similar, but, since I often fish with my dog, I decided to give it up and just cut the cord. I lost two good labs from them jumping down the hole to retrieve whatever was shot and couldn't find their way back up...just wasn't cost effective even against the 8lb. Eelpout one once brought up. sunniewally
Beast26
Drill a 2nd hole really close to the one you are fishing it....I always do this because I hate having panfish wrap themselves up in the ducer.
IcePro
7over30 What lake did you loose your dog on, I had a dawg come up my hole and was not able to find the owner. If you can identify the dawg it could be yours
Bob Clausen2
IcePro Distinguishing characteristics. HMMM, that's gonna be tough. Both are yellow labs. The male looked like any other yellow lab with three legs and a chewed off ear. The only thing about the female that might be considered distinct is that her testicles are black. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

hamms-scooter
I usually have my transducer about 1" or so up the hole from the bottom of the ice. It helps me out alot. Rarely a tangle at all that way.

IcePro
7over30 Well it appears that I do not have your dawg. The dawg that came up my hole was a 9" Black Bull Dawg. Some how I snagged the line of a fisherman that broke his line while fishing with a Bull Dawg If I see a three legged yellow lab with a chewed off ear or a female yellow lab with black testicles I will let you know. Had a laker charge my 'ducer and hit it on opening weekend a couple weeks back. Big red band appeared 15 feet down and charged straight up at the speed of light and I didn't even have time to holler "no teeth!" at the fish before my 'ducer cord bounced. Pulled my lure up and nailed the 5 lber. I can tell you I was MIGHTY upset at the way he treated my 'ducer.
Bob Clausen2
"Some how I snagged the line of a fisherman that broke his line while fishing with a Bull Dawg" Ice Pro, Sorry you got my hopes up. I've tried fishing with a 9lb. Black Bull Dawg before. Didn't have much luck and it gave me the heebie jeebies putting it on the hook...like hooking leeches. Thanks for nothin!
