I have the mag 2000 and will be switching to 80:1 and i am wondering if i will need to mess with the idle screw at all? Guy in town here said that it will run different and will change the jets and you will need to change idle a little...Has anyone had this issue? also is it necessary to let it idle for a half tank like i have seen on other posts or is that just for new augers? Mine has cut many holes in its day already. Thanks

I got my mag 2000 used, I just dumped in 80-1 and went. First year was fine but 2nd year I rebuilt the carb twice then finaly replaced it. Still on 80-1 today and running great, just new owner.

Did you like the mag after the fix? Did you mind the chipper blade? I think it is very nice in some situations the lazer wont do anything in.

I hope that is Amsoil Sabre Pro that your going to run at 80-1 or Opti 2 . I think they are the only two brands whose oil mix allows for this . You may have to tweak a jet slightly but I don't see why you would have to completely rejet . At least I didn't have to .

That breakin your reading about is on new augers . You should be good to go even with your jetting if your using Amsoil Sabre .

i just picked up an eskimo mako and was wondering if id used 80:1 with this or would it be a different ratio

Yes your good to go no matter what brand of auger but I can't emphasize enough that it must only be AMSOIL SABRE PRO that you run at this ratio . You may breakin with first tank at 50-1 using this AMSOIL SABRE PROif your auger is brand spanking new and then run at 80-1 or even 100-1 . If it is a used auger just run it at 80-1 or 100-1 whatever your comfortable with .

Well I dumped out the sm oil and gave it a fresh tank of 80:1 amsoil sabre. WOW! It took about the normal 5 puls to get her going and when it did it was just purring! I let it sit for an hour to get cold again and went back out and 2 pulls later a perfect running machine. I cant beleive the difference in response to the throttle, not hesitation at all! What a product! Never using anything else!!!

When i mixed it i thought i had a 2.5 gal can but I it wasnt i got 2.37 gals in and put just under 4 oz sabre in. should be close to 80:1

Wait till you run a tank or two through her and all that sludge gets cleaned out . You will be tackling all the oil threads so us misunderstood old fuddy duddies can sit back . LOL

Thanks for reporting back and good to hear it's working for you .Now get using seafoam too everytime you mix a batch . LOL

LOL Esox . I think in the last few weeks I have ended up selling off a half case of ATV OW-40 oil and 9 bottles out of a case of Amsoil Sabre and I'm not even a dealer . LOL All who run the sabre for the first time wonder why it took them so long to . I'll likely have to order another case of sabre just because my pals are liking it .

I went to 4 auto parts store, Fleet Farm, Gander, and a small 2 cycle engine repair shop and couldn't find AMSOil Sabre Pro at any of them in any form. I'm hoping the Opti-2 is just as good cause it was very very easily available at my local Ace hardware store so I'm going to run that. I know I could have ordered online but I'm low on gas and decided today to make the change. Will Opti-2 work as well? What ratio should I run, I picked up a 1.8oz pack and it says to mix with 1 gallon, I'm guessing this makes close to an 80-1, will that work?

If you get north of the river, you can go to an auto parts "farmyard animal" store in Bloomington that rhymes with Fred Schuester. They have the entire Amsoil line, or you can order it directly from "the oilman" here on FM.

1.3 oz in a gallon of gas is 100-1, and 1.6 oz in a gallon is 80-1.

1.8 oz in 1 gallon is closer to 70-1, unless you add more gas. 1.8 oz in 1.1 gallons is 80-1, and in 1.4 gal is 100-1.

The sludge meaning the goo in the muffler? That stuff is bad! That sm oil is never seeing my auger again!!!

Bikeoutback, I have been using Opti 2 for better than 15 years in all of my two cycle engines. Similar to your area, no one in this area had Amsoil. You won't be disappointed with the performance of your auger(or any other of your 2 cycle engines) with the switch!!!

I did end up running up north of the river and picking it up, thanks McGurk, and I returned the Opti-2. I figure both probably are the same thing but the Amsoil gets recommended about 5 to 1 on here if not more.

I mixed it up last night, although a bit richer than I think I need to be running. It's an 8 oz bottle so I was measuring it out by hand and am a little over 1.6 oz, probably more around 1.8 so figure I'm running anywhere from 60-70 to 1 ratio on this gallon. I also added 2 oz seafoam to this gallon. Auger was warm but that's when I was having the most trouble starting it, cold it ran better than warm. It fired right up last night and I can already tell it was idling much much better than before. I even adjusted the idle screw back down a bit, I had it up a bit to keep it idling. Still smoked (or could be just the hot air blow as it was cold out) but I figure it may smoke for a little bit yet due to previous oil buildup. I'm just happy it idled and ran like I think it should idle and run now.
