Well I got one for you guys. My girlfriend is a vegatarian and scared of going on ice and scared of fish. lol

Yet she tells me she is fine with me fishing and hunting as long as I clean the animal before I get home and don't show her pictures of dead animals.

She will even cook them for me.

I've been a member of FM (under a different "handle")since it's early days and believe this is one of the tackiest threads I've seen. Posting your complaints about your wife on an ice fishing forum is as objective a search for solutions as having inmates make up the parole board. If you really want insights, give your wife the opportunity to post her views alongside yours. 25 years of working in heads tells me that the issue is the relationship...not the fishing. Man up and deal with it in an arena that can improve the relationship issues and the fishing issue will fall into place. Following this thread brings up an image of 40 people all sitting on one side of a teeter-totter...a lot of fellowship, but no movement. Since your wife has no input, I'll join her on the other side of the teeter-totter until we hear from her.

Take it easy on the guy.

If he has no other place to vent and/or get advice, where better than from fellow outdoorsmen?

I agree that it is most certainly a deeper issue than fishing, but many guys on here have offered very good advice on ways to work things out. Clearly he is not the first person to have this problem.

If I don't go fishing my wife askes "Why, I'm not fishing"?

It like the three golfers #1 said "Had to buy my a Gold necklace and ring, before I got come out." golfer #2 Said "I had to book a 7 day cruise, before I got come out today"

Golfer #3 said "I asked my wife this morning, golf or sex?" she said "take your sweater its cold out on the course"

Fishing or Sex? She'll send you fishing every time!!!!

I have been out of the game(ice fishing) for a couple years. Last year I only went once. I decided its time to get rip roaring again and I am picking up a nice portable this week (sales are starting). She wanted to hang out this weekend and I said "I really want to get out and use the new ice house I'm picking up". She replies "I feel like I'm being replaced." I asked her if she wanted to go along.. she was in, without second thought. I think I have a winner, I have turned her into a hardcore Vikings fan, now maybe fishing... pshh Money in the Bank.

I've got to say, after reading dozens of responses I'm more than a little surprised.

It sounds a lot like some guys use fishing to get away from their SO's. Frankly, if my girl came along with me I'd be ecstatic. I'm going to indoctrinate her to fishing this open water season wink

Heck my only complaint about my girl is that we're not married yet.. lol.

in my search for a lady I always tell them up front I need space and have hobbies. I always back this up with a "come along any time" comment. I enjoy spending time with my wife but I also enjoy my time drinking beers with friends or fishing. she grew to understand this from the start. sometimes she comes along, sometimes she doesnt.

sometimes I go shpooing with her, sometimes I dont.

OK - I am not the wife of 'HereFish101', but I am a wife.

I used to get upset when my hubby went fishing without me. Then I went fishing with him. Now I'd rather go fishing without him and go with my son and my girlfriends.

Nice!

My wife used to get mad at me all the time for ice fishing. Before we started dating she was warned by her family of my love of ice fishing. At first she seemed ok with the idea then when we got married things took a turn for the worse. Instead of telling her I'm going fishing I had to ask her to go fishing. This became an issue as I don't work much in the Winter and she works a lot in the Winter. Soon found myself having to lie to go ice fishing for the day which is not healthy! Of course there was no way to lie to go on say a 4-5 day fishing trip.

Now only after buying her a BMW and her dream house can I go fishing when I want. Now it's like she's happy for me to go on fishing trips. It's amazing what half a million dollars can buy. BTW, best money ever spent thanks to the collapsed housing market!!!

One thing about my wife is she's wonderful with people and animals and for the past 4 years over half my business is generated from her customers which his truly amazing. The car and house is like a way to say thanks for making my business what it is today. Although I still owe her a 50in tv and a two sided fireplace for the master. These were promised to her for landing me certain jobs in 09.

BTW, my addiction to ice fishing did almost cost us our marriage about 6 years ago. Won't go into details but woman need certain things men really don't.

We do take some fishing trips together and at times she has fun. We've charted several times on LOW and she's even gone up to the sleeper on LOW a few times. This is better than some of my friends who's wives will never go around a fishing pole.

elwood, Sounds like you have it nice.

Mine will come out on the boat maybe 2-3 times a year. We did a 2 day LOTW trip 2yrs ago, she thought that was fun, but how she doesn't have the time.

This year we took different vacations, I went to canada fishing for a week. She went to Scottsdale, AZ. for X-mas. I still got my ice fishing in. My trip was cheaper, $295 for the week. Hers cost $450 just for plane fare. O'well summer is coming another trip to Thompson, Manitoba.

It is still amazing that this post has been up for a lil while now. Some think "you have deeper issues." You know nothing about this guy other than his wife doesn't like to fish. My wife, your wife, who "really" cares. I find this site enjoyable and full of fun and helpful facts. I will give anyone tips on getting someone not involved in the outdoors, to get them involved. To say you will side with someones wife on this issue when your wife probably gets upset sometimes when you leave them to fish or hunt is just wrong. I'm not trying to start a war here, but come on he was looking for tips to help get his wife involved, not fix a marriage that probably isnt broken.

I was with the same woman for 27 years and married for 25 . She would allways may a huge issue out of my hunting and fishing. I tried everything under the sun to get her involved but it never changed. To the point that all my buddies would ask alot what was her problem.. well enough was enough and yeahs there was a pile of other issues also ,, and called it quits. now couldnt be happier with the gal i am with who loves the out doors as much as I...

Sounds like she needs a hobbie. My wife used to be this way. But now she would rather have me gone she calls it my theropy. I'm always working thought so had to learn that all she really wonted was me to spend some time with her.

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
