Best Rechargeable Auger

I own the Strike Master electra lazer 1200. Works great for what I use it for. Seems to hold a good charge and cuts great. Only owned for two seasons so we'll see how the battery holds up. Don't care for the handle, they do break if dropped. love the zero gas and fumes but that'l come with any electric auger. Strike master auger comes with battery meter built in, charger, and 12 volt adapter so you can run it of ATV or vehicle. Would I tell you to buy a strike master from my experience.....I'm pretty neutral but it does what I was hoping it would do....good customer service though and thats a plus.

I have been following posts about electric augers for a few years and Icegator seems to be the favorite. The only minus seems to be availability, they usually take a few months to get. Most people are amazed at how fast they can cut. One guy down here claims that he drills 20-30 holes every weekend and he hasn't charged it in over a month.

I have always thought that power augers were a pain because of the weight, smell and maintenance, but I think I might have to break down and get an Icegator. Now if I could only remember to order one in July.

The new Ice Gator is even better than the one I purchased last season. My neighbor just purchased one. It seems to be faster than mine is. I have the Attacker. The new one is a lot more user friendly. You don't have to tip the auger head on the side to charge it. The new style battery packs have the charger port right on top.

Does anyone want to purchase mine, so I can get the new version? J.K., I wouldn't sell it. wink

If you want to spend and extra $620.00, you could get the lithium batteries with it. At least that is what they sell for.

First post long time lurker, but I thought I needed to input. I just picked up a Ice Gater after reading on this site that it is so great... Well, The only drawback is that it is heavy, not crazy heavy but heaver then my5 year old eskimo it replaced. Other than that the thing rips I have a 8" lazer bit on it and there is no way that a gas auger can keep up. I drilled maybe 200 holes with it so far and charged once(early ice 5-6 inches to a max of 14"). For a wheel-house there is nothing better then having reverse to clean your holes out(no slush in the house) I used a strikemaster electric 12v before I got the Gator and it was slow as heck.

how much are the Ice gators,(extra $620??)?? I think i paid $350 for the strike master....is money a factor for your auger??? I think if I had more money or even new about the ice gator i would have considered that just off reviews but the strike master works fine for the money...nothing extraordinary!!

That is just if you want the Lithium Ion batteries.

You can get the Attacker with: addaptor for a hand auger, standard batteries, charger for around $389.00

LOVE my GAtor. I have it(Seeker) paired with a 6 inch Nils and it SCREAMS through the ice. It is heavy, but when your drilling holes its not as noticable as you would think. The fact that it takes a 3rd of the time or less to drill a hole than with a gas auger makes up for the extra lbs.

I bought the Strikemaster unit. I can't say anything bad about it. I've drilled about 30 holes in 8-16" of ice and haven't had to recharge yet. I was told that it would only do about 20 holes through 12" of ice so I'm pretty happy. The only thing is it's not the fastest drilling auger, I'm guessing around an inch/second.

Electric is the only way to go IMO. You don't have to worry about gas/oil spilling all over, letting it warm up, or storage maintenance. While it does drill as fast, I'd be willing to bet by the time a gas auger gets started and warmed up enough to cut I would already have a hole or so drilled.

I can't say it's better than the IceGator, but it's quite a bit cheaper, and the fact that Strikemaster is located in MN is definitely a plus in my book.

Ordered my Ice Gator 2 weeks before Christmas and still waiting for it. All sold out and back ordered. I'm excited to get it though. Hand augering through the 14" last night got old fast.

Just got my UPS Tracking number. Should be getting it soon.

I bought the Strikemaster this year. Works great. No gas, no fumes. Perfect for me although I havent used any other brands' electric models.

Like Mozy said, I've been drilling 30+ holes between charges. I pulled up yesterday and popped out 6 holes before another guy close by could even get his gas auger started... I was waiting for him to walk over and ask me to drill a couple holes for him.

Like Pulleye said, I'm a little leary on the handles breaking at some point... Just seems like it could be a problem at some point.

Other than that I am completely happy with my purchase.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
