Trail cam

I have multiple flash 4.0 and one flash 5.0 model. Both have worked real well for me and are economical. I really don't any advantage with the 5.0 model that I have. It has the small view window but you really can't see any detail so I just always swap out my SD cards and bring them home to view on computer. You could get a couple of flash 4.0's in the dollar amount that you've stated.

Only thing is if you want to jump to the infrared flash models. They are a bit more spending. I personally haven't seen a flash scare deer away as some may claim. I've got several pictures of mature bucks again and again.

I would second the IR cameras, they are very good for the money. Battery life is fantastic as stated (compared to the cheaper flash cameras). Only drawback is the blurred pics of deer when moving but you will get that with other cameras as well. Can't go wrong with the Mountrie line of IR cameras! Good luck!

Check out chasinggame dot com. The site doesnt sell anything but has reviews of many many cameras. I just bought a bushnell trophy cam and am very happy with it. For me, the moultries are a good price but I got too many butts as the trigger speed was too slow.

Trailcampro is a great place to get unbiased comparisons of all the trail cams. Check it out. I own 2 scoutgaurds and they have worked flawless. When I was going to get two more I was told that scoutgards were not going to be made anymore and that the Bushnell Tropy Cam was essentially the same camera in a different housing, which you can tell when you are programming them. The trigger speeds on these cams are incredible.

I have a Moultrie D40 (Flash) and it worked well this year had a few pictures of deer walked in but then second picture it was gone. Hard to say did flash spook it? Did they change paths? Did they walk right through and the delay was too slow? for 80 bucks it was a great camera easy to program easy to use. For christmas I got a Stealth Camera Snipper IR. Great photo's harder to program but took a little bit to figure out but pretty nice pictures and can't wait to play more with it. I think that is running about 160. I also got cash from grandma and picked up a Wildgame Innovations IR4??? I think it is called. Smaller camera which I liked but it don't have shot burst. So I was told to put it on video so that way I can get more things on the camera instead of just one shot. We'll just have to see what next summer brings for me. I have not put the Wildgame one out yet and with the cold and snow I do not plan on taking it out.

Reconyx Reconyx Reconyx. These baby's are the ticket. I have had one for 2 yrs well over 6000 pics a year on a single set of batteries. Never had them go dead in the middle of the week or two days after I checked it because of below 0 temps. If you have used other cameras than you no how frustrating that is. The rapid-fire mode is almost like video but without the memory getting burned up. Looking into buying 2 more, been saving up for the big plunge. Yes the price hurts but the performance and batt life is unbeatable. Go ahead and go for it. Its worth it.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
