Childress Wanted to Pull Favre

Later on, I caught up with Childress as he returned from the shower and was walking into the visiting coach's office. It was just me, Childress and his towel. Standing in the doorway, I basically asked for a comment with regards to Favre announcing that he refused to come out of the game. Before Childress could answer, Bob Hagan, the team's director of public relations, pushed past me and slammed the door.

A couple of minutes later, a previously docile Childress stormed out of the office like a wild man, still clutching the towel around his waist. He made a sharp turn into the assistant coaches' office and went ballistic. I don't know who was in there or what he said. But by the decibel level, it was clear he was furious.

It was about then that I got the bum's rush out of the locker room. Several minutes later, Hagan told me he could "pretty much guarantee" Childress wasn't going to speak with me. I'd prefer that the coach tell me that and therefore waited outside for perhaps 30 minutes. Nobody came out.

What happened? One guess is that Childress was unaware of Favre's comments and, when informed, went ballistic. But I don't know at whom he was screaming. And Hagan insisted that what he said to the coach that set him crazy had nothing to do with Favre. I tend to take a man at his word. It's one of my weaknesses.

In any event, it was a screwy end to a screwy night. Now we find out that this isn't the first time Childress has tried to pull Favre and failed. That's alarming and clearly needs to be rectified.

Yes on the HAMS bit about Brett, SILENCE! hilarious.

IMO sure its one game, but #4 was not moving the offense and Chili is the coach. Easy to say this, but who is running the team? You can spin it on #4 being a competitor but Chili is the coach, sure getting paid less than #4 but he is supposed to be the coach of the team. You wanna take #4 out and put in TJ do it!

He for good or bad is the coach. Everyone who ever played sports knows the coach has the last word. Any team is not a democracy. Right or wrong Mr Favre has no ground to stand on in not following orders. This could upset the cart more than any loss.

Football is a TEAM game, the coach runs the show. Please insert Brett instead of Vernon.

"[As for] Vernon, it was something I told everyone at the beginning of the week. I will not tolerate players who think it's about them when it's about the team. And we cannot make decisions that cost the team and then come off the sideline nonchalant. No. You know what? This is what I believe, I'm from the old school. I would rather play with ten people and just get penalized all the way until we gotta do something else rather than play with 11 when right now that person is not sold out to be a part of this team. I told him he would do a better job for us to take a shower and watch the game on the sidelines rather than take the field." Mike Singletary

Maybe if chili would have had the brains to try to protect Favre or have him role out more often instead of pulling him this would not be a talking point.

Pulling Favre could upset the cart also. Who knows how Favre would have reacted and I think Chilli new that and that's why he didn't press it.

After reading all this and seeing everything that was on TV today, I think it is all [PoorWordUsage] and here is what it boils down to.........the Minnesota Vikings had absolutely no heart last night. There was no pride. There was no leadership........one of the veterans should have been on the sidelines chewing some serious a$$ and lighting some fires. There was none of this. Yeah, the coaches suck and couldn't make an adjustment to win a Pop Warner game, but there comes a point in time when the players should get PO'd from being run over all night, pick themselves up and knock some people on their cans. This passive attitude the players have suits them more for badmiton rather than football. Strap it on and make some snot bubbles when you hit someone..........if they won't do that, then turn in your uniform and pick up your check cause you should be outta here.

Its all in who is running the show. Clearly #4 is, which will be the end of it. Maybe not 100% the same, but look at McKinnie, he manned up and said he was puking it up on the field and deserved to be benched and sat down, no questions asked.

That was a bottle of water being poured into the well oiled machine

Two lack luster games in the last three, questionable leadership, no running game and a tiring defense. I'm glad we had the collapse prior to the playoffs. The only question is, can we right the ship in time??? I for one am not confident in the answer.

For all of you who say That Favre did something wrong by lobying his coach to leave him in the game, I say you are all full of huuuueeeeyyyy. If Chili really wanted him out of the game he would have been out. Favre did not make the ultimate decision, Chili did with a little help from Favre.

If Childress would have benched Favre that early in the game and the outcome would have still been the same, this would have been a whole different conversation.

Yeah, pull your hall of fame, MVP candidate QB for T-Jack with a 7-6 lead!!!!!!! Now that's funny right there, I don't care who ya are!

I am not saying Childress was in the right, but like I said, right or wrong, he has the final say. If it was me, the Vikes would be seeing if Jackson is worthy of renewing his contract for the rest of the season. Favre would have the choice to warm the bench, or take a hike.

Just when I was starting to warm up a little to him, he just set that back to where he was prior to this season.

I love it that Favre runs this team. I would rather have the Silver Fox running it than Chili.....Also anyone who watched that game knows Favre wasn't the problem.

Me too. Bretts been there done that and I think would actually make a great coach someday, whether it be a QB coach or a head coach. He is very intelligent when it comes to football. He is personable with other players, but not to the point like Tice was. Tice tried to hard to be friends with everyone, you gotta be able to get into ppls faces sometimes, and I think Brett could handle it

I think the whole situation boils down to Favre and the way he changes the plays called at the line and thus changes the game plan. Look at the inbalance in our rushing attempts vs passing attempts over the past few weeks...Favre simply likes to pass the ball and call his own number and I believe Chilly is the other way around. Our ground game stinks right now...due in most part because we simply don't run as often as we used to.

Chilly wants the game called his way...that's why he's always liked and stood behind TJack. TJack simply doesn't have the balls or experience to stray too far from Chilly's game plan. I think Chilly wanted to run the ball last night and it wasn't getting done...enter TJack.

Favre wants to and IS calling his own game...so far, Chilly doesn't have the balls to stand up to him.

Well thankfully we have the QB who is smart enough to change the plays. In case you haven't notice, our running game isn't good enough to rank in the top 5 of the California Penal League. You put TJunk in the game, and his Childress worshiping a$$ and he does just what Chilly wants him to. Hand the ball off and lose yards on every play, followed closely by an incomplete pass.......on comes Kluwe. The Vikings coaching staff doesn't have the ability to make any adjustments during the game, so it comes down to Favre doing it. Least he will try and get to a play that will net yards. Favre isn't the problem, its the lack of NFL Coaching we have standing on our sidelines week in and week out.

So either you are delusional or ahhh delusional, we have seen the real world results of Bert staying in the game and getting his arse kicked in every aspect. He did not take the bull by the horns and win the game.....but by some of you posters reactions, you would think Bert had led us to victory??? We lost, Bert pouted and disobeyed HIS coach.

You never know maybe with Jacksons mobility, maybe we could have won the game, lord knows what Favre brought to the game wasnt working! And maybe Childress seen that and wanted to make the changes, but Favre wouldnt leave the game.

No one out there could stand up peppers and our d was downright bad. Our line didn't open up holes for the run, and our backfield was missing tackles - not to mention, offensive pass interferience that was missed by the stripes resulting in a TD and the step out of bounds by smith in the closing minutes that was challanged but not overturned that should have been. Overview shot showed hit foot on the line. Farve made the right choice in terms of trying to win the game, but maybe could have salvaged some pain through out the week from all the hits he took.
