me and my dad dont go fishing much just dont seem to have the time when i was younger we still do go a couple times over the summer, he never ice fished...my uncle who is like my other dad and lives to fish and be in the outdoors really brought me into the whole deal and i am very thankful and would do anything for him. he got me started ice fishing when i was very young as well as open water fishing. mostly panfish just cuz they were more action i think and when your young you get bored easy. looking back i now realize how often we really did go fishing and hunting.. now i got my own stuff to go ice fishing and am getting my dad into it. i really hope we can keep going for awhile. dad hasnt really ice fishing but he seems to know where to go i hope we can keep going for many years as i still have alot to learn and really would like to make more memiores doing it!

I'm not sure who to give the credit to. Not my dad, he was not a fisherman or a hunter. I never saw him do any of that stuff at all when I was growing up.

I had 2 older brother-in-laws that took me out in boats a few times a year and some neighbor kids at the farm down the road and I would ride our bikes down to the river and fish as kids.

I learned about fishing later in life when I started ice fishing with friends. Mostly I learned from reading magazines and then from the internet after Al Gore invented that! Now I keep learning from Fishing Minnesota and John Gillespe.

I can't name one single person who "taught me to fish."

Learning starts before birth and doesn't end until death. So literally scores of people have taught me one thing or another about fishing. Or, turned back the other way, I've learned how to fish from many, many people, as well as discovering things all on my own that no doubt others already knew.

All learning is self learning. Ya gotta wanna learn to learn. All that being said, it's been a great journey so far, and I thank every single person who has put an arrow in my quiver. And I thank everyone in advance for future arrows.

My dad a grandpa got me fishing young but we never had a boat.

I grew up on the Miss and was a little river rat and I learned real quick not to give your spots up to guides because they burned them up.

I learned to be real careful about who I took fishing later in life if I thought they were fish hawks.

My Dad never fished with me much after about age 14 until about ten years ago we go out on his pontoon boat up by the WFC.

So I guess they planted the bug in be and I took it way to far from there.

By they Way I taught Foss everything he knows about lakers.LOL

My Grandpa taught me when I was young. I can remember him telling me this about walleyes, "when you feel a tap, tap, give them line and then cross their eyes" I would always picture the walleye's eyes crossing when I would set the hook.

I guess I would have to say my uncle, he's the one I always fished with. We only did the week in MN thing as a kid but once I got old enough to have something motorized I really started learning on my own. Dad never has been into fishing, 1 brother got the bug even though most my familys in MN few fish other than once in awhile or do the 1 week a year family/fishing getaway. I go to the extreme, trying to hit 140 days this year, getting close sitting at 132-133 I think. Next year shooting for 150-175 day out. Having the kids gone is nice, go to work then hop in the boat waiting for me at a dock and be fishing 5 minutes after I clock out.

Pretty much self taught but when my Dad was alive he went to Canada fishing at least once every year and always asked who wanted to go along. He would pay all expenses so you would think it would be a no brainer that I would go every year but sadly I only went with him twice in all those years because I was always too busy. What a fool I was. My son was smart enough to go with him almost every year once he was old enough to fish though. I have more time in the winter so I developed a passion for ice fishing so one day I took my Dad to Silver Lake by Lake Park Iowa. We ended up limiting out on nice perch and walleye. He had a stroke and passed away very shortly after that and I thank God for that day of ice fishing.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
