Winter 2010 Icefishing Reports and Ramblings

Bill and I fished a PA lake this morn. Getting on and off the ice was a chore with 18 in of snow. Had to shovel out a parking spot also. There was 10 in of black ice with 7 in of slushy snow on top. Fish bit good when we first got there than slowed down the last couple of hrs. I was being selective and kept 2 seeds and 17 nice perch.

Another 2 plus weeks of reports

2/14/10 3:45pm-5:45pm 10 tipups with the wife8 perch kept 3 to 10.5 1 pickerel.

2/15/10 4pm-6:30pm 10 tipups with a buddy went for Walleyes 1 pick 4 gills.

2/16/10 3:30pm-6:30pm went for Walleyes 5 tipups one 23" Walleye released.

2/17/10 11am-6pm went for trout 10 tipups with a buddy I got 2 browns 14.5 and 16.5" and 2 smallies fishing partner got skunked Bite all happened when the snow came in then it went dead.

2/18/10 3:30pm-6:30pm went for walleyes got one slimy bastard.

2/19/10 11am-3pm went for walleyes got about 40 keeper perch let a bunch go and around 10 smallies to 17.5".

2/20/10 1:30pm-3:30pm went for Trout with the wife 10 tipups and 4 smallies 12-16" we called it quits.

2/21/10 2pm-6pm went for walleye with the wife We got 3 walleye 16" 17.75" and 19.5" Wife caught the 2 biggest. Kept 6 perch to 11" 2 rockies and 3 smallies biggest 17 3/4".

2/22/10 3pm-7pm 10 tipups with buddy 7 perch to 13.5" around 20 dinks 6 picks to 22" 4 largies to 14" and 3 seeds to 9".

2/23/10 9:30am-1pm went for eyes 5 keeper perch to 10.5" 3 dinks and 3 smallies.

2/24/10 6:30am-6pm Headed north to Quinte for 2 days got a 4lb, 6lb and 8lb (weighed on scale) buddy got skunked a few perch to 10".

2/25/10 6:30am-6pm 2nd day @ Quinte got a 2lb and 4lb. buddy got a 2lb and 4lber. About 10 perch to 11.5".

2/26/10 5pm-6pm One 12" perch about 10 dinks 3 rockies to 11" and one 15" fallfish.

2/27/10 10:30am-12 noon One 11" perch about 15 dinks and one 10" rockie.

2/28/10 3pm-6pm 6 keeper perch to 12" about 25 dinks. 6 seeds to 9" 3 potato chips. Gave the perch away to my buddy who had 3 perch to 12".

3/1/10 9am-6pm Slow 12 keeper perch to 11" about 30 dinks 13 keeper seeds to 9.75" about 15 chips, 2 rockies and one 10" largie.

3/2/10 9:30am-1:30pm slow again walked all over fished with buddy. around 30 dinks 3 pumpkinseeds. Buddy had a bunch of dinks 2 rockies @ 11" and this huge guy @ 30". Luckily he was fishing a melt hole 8-9" or this fish would have never been landed.

I havnt been on the ice in a bit. I got shipped down state for a few days of training. Had a good time but it was nice to get away from the city and 6 dollar pints n 12 buck burgers!

Well it was good cardio day for fishing and the walking was excellent but the fishing was not good at all we did mark a couple of nice marks suspended off the bottom but other than a few hundred 4 - 5" perch it was non-existent, not one bluegill we tried and worked hard searching to no avail. Ice was a good 11-12" of black with 3-4" of white ice. We started punkinng through into some of the 2" slush spots as we left the ice but it was nice enough to walk easily from one end of the lake to the other. Had a good time with the guys and we ripped some holes. Don't know what to do for Saturday yet.

Fished Oneida (VB) today with two others. Walking conditions were excellent, was able to stay on top of the crust or follow hard packed snowmobile trails out to the perch grounds. Only problem was the perch were either gone from the grounds or were simply not active . Covered a vast expanse of territory marked maybe 8 fish got 5 to bite but only landed 3. All 3 were big brutes but the bite was almost undetectable. I think I made it out as far as FK and Chris were out on one of our trips. The two others with me had nothing.

Walking was great, fishing was tough and cutting holes was a hell of a lot of work. That about sums it up.

Tank and I hit our mixed bag PA lake this morning till noon. Had a nice morning picking fish. Walking was great and the sun was bright

About 10 am dad popped a couple of crappies and I followed with this one. Most yahoos would call it 14.5, Im going with 14 7/16's lol

She filled a 6 inch hole...

I tried the TrickPhoto Inc FishHold and it was still 14 7/16's. All it did was cause laughter and tennis elbow...

Rumor has it the TimmyToe Express and gang caught fish today. Stay away from Delta and Oneida and good things happen

I txted him a challenge of 5 bucks on the biggest crappie for the day but had no takers

Jay that crappie sure soes look alot nice here than on my cell phone. What a fish! We did fish a couple lakes by Tyler and Bud's house. Tuzzy, Frank, Bruce and I caught some pretty fish, fished two lakes and had an outstanding lunch. Had some hoppy refreshments to wash it down. Here's the show.

Nice reports and fish all... Bad picture taking TimToe or did you try and cut everyones head off?

Beth and I hit Kappy's Gruby Lake this afternoon from about noon till 4:30. 1 to 2 per hole and occasionally more. Mostly med gills with a few nicer ones...

Beth had the fish of the trip with this one pushing 9.5in. Quite rare at this place...

How was the long walk out? Sammy, myself and Dustin hit a couple private lakes yesterday then hit the river in the cartop in the afternoon for eyes. Sammy landed 3 waldos and hooked into a few very large carp.

Kappy - It wasnt too bad of a walk. A few snowmobiles had run up and down through there. By the end of the day it had softened and was kinda like walking in sand...

Im not sure whats wrong with that lake, the fish definatly seem stunted. All the bass we have caught have been skinny and you'd think they would have a field day on the small gills in there and thin em out so they'd be healthier? When you do catch a nicer gill/sunny they seem old...

3/3/10 9:30am-3pm Went for walleye got 1 smallie 15" 1 rockie 9" 1 perch 11.5" and about 20 dinks buddy got around 8 keeper perch.

3/4/10 9am-1pm Went for gills on one of those famous Timmy Toes trips got about 30 dink perch to 5" never saw a bluegill. Tim Doug and Tuz had same results .

3/5/10 4:20pm-6:20pm Went for perch got 14 perch to 12"ish 10 dinks 3 rockies 1 smallie.

3/6/10 4pm-6:15pm went for perch got 6 to 10.5" 2 rockies and 3 smallies.

3/7/10 3pm-6:15pm Went for perch got around 25 dinks to 9".

3/8/10 5:30pm-8:30pm went for walleyes marked a few got the big SKUNK buddy lost a nice fish (thinking walleye) at the hole.

3/9/10 4:30pm-6:30pm Perch 13 keepers to 12" about 25 dinks and a 20" sucker.

3/10/10 2pm-6:30pm went for pike (something we never do) and on a lake we never fished. Ended up getting 3 pike 30", 28" and 22" also three 13" perch that sucked down a sucker and treble hook around 50 perch 6-10" for the little bit of time we spent jigging.

3/11/10 3:45pm-6:15pm Perch 19 keepers to 13.5" around 40 dinks.

3/12/10 7:30am-10:30am Perch 25 keepers including a 14" and 14.75" around 20 dinks and 4 pickerels to 23.5".

3/13/10 6am-8:30am 4 perch to 13" 1 rockie 11.5" 2 pickerel and a 21.5" est. 6lb Largemouth wife beat my biggest by 0.5".

Jay and I fished our crappie lake in PA yesterday for a couple hrs. It was bad with 30 mi winds and fish were not moving. 15 in of crysalized ice. Only caught 3 keeper craps and 2 keeper gills. Probably our last time out.Had a great time at our camp with a big fish fry friday and plenty of good food and a keg and a halve of beer. 13 guys showed up.

Tank, It sounds like everyone was pretty thirsty and I am sure the fish was good too.I have been drying my ice gear for a week now time for storage the boat is coming out real soon the yellows and calico's are just around the corner .
