There are some great deals on this reel right now, I've seen them as low as $108. I think you'll love this reel. I got one this summer and it's super smooth. Only thing I don't care for is the weight, but it's not terrible.

Looks like a nice reel!

I'm actually in the market for a new baitcaster. My old Abu froze up on me this fall after about 10 years. Decent reel, but I never liked it as much as others I've used. So, trying to decide between the Curado, this new Abu, and some of the Quantum's I've seen around. Anyone have a preference and why?

Agreed, but from the people I've talked to at Cabelas and Gander, baitcasters are getting better at lower prices. One guy swore by the Cabelas brand reels. Not sure I believe that, but would love to hear from someone that's owned a Curado (the reel I'm focusing on) and some others and compare/contrast.

dont buy cabelas reels they are junk IMO. I have Shimano curados and citicas and Abu Garcia revo SX's. I really like all three for different reasons. The Revo SX is hands down a smoother reel that has a much better drag but is a little more finicky when it comes to brake adjustment. The Curado and citicas are preferred for skipping docks/flippin/pitchin. For the money the citica is a really nice little reel

Never owned a Curado, but heard they are bullet proof. I've got mostly older Quantums for baitcasters. E600PT, that Revo STX, and a Shimano something, but not the Curado. I really like that Revo. I do like the Shimano Stradic for spinning - great reel when it's working. The 2500 is going in the shop again this winter.

I have a Premier and 3 STX's now (all 2009) models. I very much prefer them over any of my Shimano's. I don't own any new Shimanos (and don't plan on getting any).

I believe the Revo's will be having the promo for free sunglasses again soon.

Citica - that's what I have. (Thanks Larson15 for the reminder) Citica is alright, but I can only cast heavy lures. I use it for my pitching rod and it works well. I'd rather have a Revo STX though. It's really low profile and sits in the palm comfortably.

Thanks guys...

Hey EBass, you from EP or live there now? I grew up in EP, back when winning 2-3 football games in a season was something special. You fish around there much? I grew up fishing Riley and Lotus Lake in Chanhassen.

The new E Citicas are a huge step forward over the D's. I have a few D's that I like but my dad got a new Citica E this year and its a smooth little reel for just 120 bucks! Ive got some older high end shimanos and that reel can hold its own against them. Only thing that kinda bothers me is the size, they are really low-profile and took a bit to get used to when I tried my dad's out.

The Revos are nice reels but I think the price points on them are getting out of control. The Revo S is now a $130 reel. Id take the cheaper Citica E over it anyday.

EBass, did you graduate from EP? What year? I graduated in '94.

Riley was a better lake years ago, you could go out there and catch some monster pike and it had good largemouth fishing. I haven't fished it in years, but I've heard varying reports on its prowess today.

Do you fish Green at all? Are you able to specifically target smallies on Tonka?

Nope I went to Cooper and graduated in 92. Never been to Green but really want to. Some day.

I have a couple of areas (way west to way east) I've caught smallies on Tonka, but no don't target them specifically. Just on the Sippi obviously.
