imhooked
I'm heading out with my Hawkin 54 cal. round ball percussion. I built that gun from scratch over 25 years ago and it still does the job. I'm one of the few to still shoot round ball. I'm with you.Have been killing white tailed deer with PRB for quite a few years.I have a 50 caliber Pennsylvania rifle that shoots 90 grains Goex ffg. CANOPY SAM
Went out last night. Gorgeous evening. Out comes doe, walks across field toward me. Out comes buck following doe. They play for a while. Rut is definately still on! Buck comes in range. I put small hole in buck's heart and right lung. Buck falls down and his girlfriend runs away. Season is over. One shot thru the muzzy this year. I like the fact that I only have to clean it once!

Ely Lake Expert
I had a pretty quiet opening weekend. Saw one doe in our field while I was eating lunch, didn't see anything out of the stand.
BlueLundFishrman
Took my cva 45 to WI for a few days of hunting. Didn't tag one, but had a good time. Only got one shot. Will try it out again when the SD season opens up in December. Have two tags to fill, may get more if that goes well.
Musky Buck
Saturday nothing, Sunday nothing, Monday AM heard a car screech on the road and honking, 30 seconds later a mature buck on the run, 1 lucky .50 Cal Thompson Center Black Mountain Magnum blast at 7:54 AM and my 20th outing of the year was the lucky one. Saw 9 deer in 20 prime times this year. Bingo. I shoot original blackpowder with a 370 grain maxi ball, dead on at 100Yards. After the smoke cleared, the real work began deep in a tamarac swamp. Musky Buck
Working on it Bear55. No worry Frosty, got him in a different Tamarac Swamp near Hewitt. I tried NYM saturday, lots of track, just little to no daylight movement or so I thought that was the vibe. There was 1 shootable buck on my TCam in NYM. All my Tcam pics were between 6:21PM and 2:48 AM. 1 gnarly 6 pointer also. Back to yesterday, I almost missed high, I forget on my muzzy because in 12 years or so I've fired 2 rounds at deer that the trigger needs to be pulled further than my deer rifle to cut the hammer loose. I also must shoot it to empty it each season but I don't analyze that trigger pull then. It sure was weird to pull up the gun and realize, that's right, pull back the hammer, no scope and then tracking him trying to decide if he was decent enough or what. The blast really folded him up. Glad that car/truck didn't roast him.
vister
MB, where near hewitt, or whose property was it? any pics, or description of the buck. congrats!
Musky Buck
TY Vister, East on 210 then north on County road 103 about 4 miles. It's west of county road 103 and about the only Tamarac swamp in that area. Not a monster, but a real solid buck. He only has 7 tines but means as much to me as my rifle kills. With a rifle he might still be kicking because I could've got a better look at his head when he was running, but that's the game with a muzzy in hand. I was surprised I connected with willow, grass, cattail, tamarac, I had 1 window of opportunity. My dad who lives about a mile away when I got home said I heard a shot at 5 to 8 sounded like the Tamarac swamp area, I added it was and it was me. That black powder really stinks meaning smells rottenish, the toughest part was I hope I have no regrets walking up to him. It happened very fast and I couldn't slow him down, I whistled as loud as I could, he kept running. I like eating venison so I wasn't too concerned but we have a strict no 1 1/2 bucks so I played it in my mind a few times that by body size there was no way he was a yearling and he wasn't. I'll get a pic soon etc.
