Ice Fishing Meals

Recommended Posts

T.O.W.,

Tell me more about the tacos in a bag. How do you make them, store them, and heat them. That sounds like a great meal on the ice.

ive always made tacos in a bag like this...

~snack sized bag of your favorite taco chip (i.e. dorritos, regular corn chips, fritos..ect)

~taco meat

~regular taco fixins (lettuce, tomoato, cheese, salsa)

crush up the chips in the bag, add meat and fixins, shake, eat

Hmm, food in a bag...that would definately save some space and make me more mobile, my goal this year. I imagine the sky is the limit on what you could do in those bags. Make up a bunch now, freeze them, and take them out the night before you go fishing.

Last year on Christmas I made giant pot roast and all the fixings on lake of the woods in a rental shack. The last few years my friends and I have started to like the hot buttered rum mix when we're out on the ice. Sure warms the belly.

I like to keep the bother and mess down on the the ice. I've made breakfast sandwiches that the guys really like with little cleanup. First I fry up onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc. that can be added to sandwiches, and put them on a paper plate. Then, I put a #3 cast iron pan on the campstove(#3 is the smallest size). A spray of Pam cooking oil, break two eggs into the pan and break their yolks, and add any of the precooked additions to it. Cover. As soon as the eggs firm up, flip them over. Then put on a good slab of ham, and top that with a slice of cheddar or provalone(sp) cheese. Melt. Slide the finished product into a large steak bun or sliced hard roll. Top with whatever condiment you like and serve on a paper plate or paper towel. Each guy decides what he wants on his and the only cleanup is one small fry pan to wipe out.

was at my sister in Milwaukee this weekend and this is what we did for brunch yesterday. Took 2 or 3 eggs and cracked them into double zipper, zip lock bags. mixed them up a little in the bag, then added omlet fixinings (ham onions, cheese, etc) then zipped them up and let them boil in a big pot of water for 20 minutes. Eggs are finished, and on the ice you could just give the people a plastic fork and let them eat out of the bag. I think with a big propane burner and a big pot, you could feed a lot of guys......

We do this as well just make sure the bags are the frezzer ones.

They are thicker and hold up better when you are boiling them.
