Duck Blind vs. Deer Stand

Recommended Posts

for 8 years thats all I did was duck hunt thru deer season no pressure and always ducks around but the past 4 years I have been deer hunting instead first two years the weather was the reason to warm and nice out and ducks werent down yet and the last two years my oldest son has turned of age to shoot deer last year deer open got messed up and I really want him to bag his first deer. With that said if he shoots a deer on opener we will be hitting bowstring or winni for ducks the following day.

Good luck to you guys hunting this weekend I will be listening for the sounds of whisteling wing as morning breaks in the deer woods and wishing I was duck hunting.

Duck blind usually, but last year that bit me in the rear because my buddy shot his 2 and then I sat on stand for next 4 days, didn't see anything and neither did he. We'll see...Things won't be freezing up by the looks of it so where I'm going its probably not worth sitting in the boat.

Deer without a doubt. I've shot so many ducks in my life and this is the 1 chance other than bear hunting where you can get a guaranteed crack at a big game animal in Minnesota and it's only 9 days or 1 if you connect on opener and for 27 dollars. I could say the same shot so many deer but I'd rather have a freezer full of venison jerky, dried, etc and after getting my second crown I can't bite into another steel pellet. Whatever your choice or flavor, good luck and goose/decoy hunters in fields be careful, many moons ago, got a buck, went goose hunting the next day and had a truck with a rifle pointing out the window right at me and the decoys, I stood up quickly when I figured hey this guy is going to take a crack here from the road, window went up, gun back in and he floored it out of dodge.

Wow muskybuck! That's intense! You really can't be too careful! There are some real stupid people out there hunting! I always pack my blaze hat and vest in my waterfowling pack when I go out during deer season just to be safe.

Right on Moonie, it was intense for the moment, I'm glad the geese weren't buzzing and me being hunkered down, to finish the story after I packed up shop, I recognized the truck at a house not far away, I pulled in just to visit and thank the guy for not firing and when he came out of the house here it was a guy I graduated high school with, he felt very bad but admitted he was seconds from cutting his 270 loose. Let's add he led the class of 89 in career detentions and expulsions.

Deer stand. Like musky buck said be careful. A few years back I always hunted ducks on deer opener. When zone 4 was a split season I hunted deer the second weekend. First weekend always meant good duck hunting and I didnt want to miss it. Set the dekes out on deer opener and around 9:00am I heard a russel in the thickets behind the boat. A decent 6 pointer popped out and POW a deer hunter lets a round go. I heard the bullet zip about 3 feet over my head. I layed down in the boat and let some shots go in the air so the hunter knew I was there. A few minutes later the hunter comes out and askes if he hit it. That was it no more ducks on the deer opener. (I was wearing a Blaze orange hat) The day before is a different story though. smile
