jason mitchell meat stick

Looking to add a new rod and would like input on the meat stick. I fish outside a lot and am concerned about the eye freezing up. I know its a great rod, I have the perch and spring bobber and love them. Maybe the panfish would be a better choice for outside? If anyone has ideas, let me know.

Yes due to the tip eye being so small and the tip so thin I try not to use mine outdoors when its below freezing. If I do I make sure to clear ice out of the tip with my mouth and take good care of the tip section. It can be touchy in the freezing temps.

With that being said I do LOVE my Meatsticks. I own 4.

I used to use my wifes nail polish on the tip for better visability but now I see Jason has come out with colored tip sections. Looks like Ill have to get me 1 more of them.

I enjoy my meatsticks a lot and they have a nice backbone so that stray walleye are pike can be handle with care.

The spring bobber rod is also a nice option.

The meatstick is a great rod. Northlander addressed the small eye thing. Also, be careful with the tip. Not a rod you want to haul around in a pail. You'll want a hard sided case.

You'll love the meatstick if you get one. The most sensitive tipped rod I"ve used.

who makes a good hard case thats as portable as can be? bought me a soft sided one a couple years ago and it's kinda a pain i thought.

One of the rod bags I use has a hard tube where the rod tips go, connected to a larger soft compartment for the reels and rod handles. I keep my meatsticks in that rod bag, and sometimes put rod slicks on them before I put them in there. Never broke a rod in their (yet).

I use the same thing - 2 of them. One fore my panfish rods, the other for deadstick & walleye rods. I can fit 3 rod combo's in each, using Rodslicks is a must to help protect the guides, keeps line from tangling & easier to pull rods in/out of the protective tube.
