Boxcar Wllie
Just looked at the 10 day GFSx and a big ridge looks like it will start to build Thursday and into Friday. Might have to pack some t-shirts for the stand this year. I always hope for cold and snow to keep the deer moving but if the models hold true it might be a tough one...So, my question is......What have you done or found that works in the past when the weather is warmer? Discuss.
madbomber10
When the weather is much warmer I have found that kicking my feet up and basking in the sunlight works well for a nap. I know that I have never missed a deer this way, because when I wake up nothing is ever there.
ddp
Funny... I was just thinking the same thing. I was looking at the weather last week and it was saying snow, highs of 30, etc.. and now warm, warm, warm...(up north in the brimson area) That will probably change 10 times by then. Just hope it doesn't rain. I have shot a couple of nice deer when the temp is up there. A few years back I was darn near in a t-shirt when I took a buck at high noon. Tic Toc... Can't wait.... I haven't seen the count down clock yet
Riverratpete
Be in the stand in early AM then hit the water for fishing at lunch, then hit the stand again for the last 1 hour or so of light.
mrklean
i really hope it changes back to the 30 with snow like it first said
Wobbler
ddp,Long time not talking to you. I saw the forecast for the Brimson area and looks like 30's-40's but the rain will play a factor as it it supposed to through the opener. I can't believe how wet everything has got up there in the last 6 weeks. We have seen many deer and it surprises me that we are in the Lottery in 122. I got a doe permit so I can wait but maybe I will see you at Hugo's when I register my monster buck! Good luck!
ddp
Hey Wobbs, Good to hear from you! I am liking your report on the deer situation The guy at the end of cemetery road said that there have been wolves hanging around... a lot of wolves. Should be interesting to pull the trail cams. I hope the rain stays away! Nothing worse than sitting in a wet stand. We will be stopping by Hugos on the way in. Probably throw a couple back. The motorhome will be there on the corner thursday but we also purchased a pop-up camper so we might have to bail early from Hugos inorder to set it up. Hopefully get to personally meet you up there. If you are driving by the corner, feel free to stop in. If it is after shooting hours, we will have a cold one for you.

Wobbler
ddp,I won't get up to Hugo's before the opener as I have to ref a football game and then drive from Thief River Falls to get there. I hope to be the first one at the Hugo's door Saturday morning with a monster! As you know I have a place down the Seven Beavers Road. We built the new cabin on the right at the end of the forestry road before you take the turn to head to the lakes. So as the crow flies I think we are about 6 miles apart. We have seen very little wolf sign so that is a positive I think. The woods has lots of rubs and a few scrapes here or there. I kinda want a little snow too. Seems to me snow=deer moving all over! If I get a chance I will swing by. If I shoot a deer early I will make a point of it as I am hunting the first 9 days! Good Luck!
ddp
sounds good!!! We are on Brimson/Toimi rd just south of 16. I have a hall pass until wednesday and that is it for me this year unfortunately. Kids are still young so can't leave for too long without coming home to the locks being changed

Boxcar Wllie
Since the topics are changing so quickly I thought I would bring this one back to the top...
96trigger
They are changing the forcast daily. Last night they had chance of rain almost every day this week, now we are down to just tomorrow night and 60 degrees for the weekend down here. Should be very pleasant if not on the warm side. In my experience, when the rut is on, it is on. 60's should make them dog a little bit during the day, but morning and evenings should be good. harvey lee
35-50 is fine with me. The meat will keep and I don't need the snow.
HeviShot
Whats the warmest you would let you deer hang in a tree for a couple days? Just curious as this always seems to be a concern in our hunting party.
Red Miller
When the air is getting into the 50s, I am concerned. 40 is ideal. One thing is to make sure those critters are in the shade all day. We lost some meat one year when it got warm and we let the sun get at 'em.
96trigger
If you can find a pole shed and keep the doors closed, you will be just fine. It should still cool over night and stay cooling as the days go on. If that is not possible, get them in the shade the best you can. Even hanging them overnight and then covering them with blankets the next moring will help. 60 during the day is going to be pushing it. WaveWacker
Where we're at, it's predicted for 50 for a high on Sat. Yes warm but I'm playing in the full moon factor as well. Not that it always holds true but I've witnessed it myself. Potentially full moon has deer feeding earlier. Meaning that they may be heading back to lay down early. I've seen some great mid day action with the full moon as the theory is that they get up to "stretch their legs" some. Not sure how 50 will affect that but my plan is to sit my rear in my stand all day and see how it plays out. I'm more concerned over the wind, as the stand I'd like to hunt doesn't have the best wind predicted for it on Sat. Things can change however between now and then.
