Defensive woes

It looks as though the Vikes are trying to address their gaping hole in our secondary. Maybe not the best scenario but it is something.

Quote:

The Vikings are expected to sign free agent CB DeAndre Wright.

Wright was the Giants' sixth-round pick this year out of New Mexico. He would be insurance if Antoine Winfield (foot) can't go this week. The Vikings also worked out corners Mark Parson and Trae Williams.

To me it seems like the defense is missing something from years past. Not as dominating. You don't hear about Henderson or Lieber much. Just Greenway and Allen. Henderson used to fly around and make big plays. Frazier needs to get that defense going. Seems like when we had inadequate offense the defense kept us in the game. Now that we have a decent offense the defense isn't as dominating. Just an observation.

IMO, our safeties are the weak spot on this team. Their play affects both the linebacking crew and the corners. Johnson, especially, is really taking his lumps.

100% agreed; from the SanFran game(letting V. Davis go right over them consistently) to late read/coverage, and missed tackles in the Baltimore game. I was hoping they would have given a mid rd. to early rd. pick to a team willing to move players at the trade deadline for a serviceable SS....Tyrel Johnson is a liability so far into the season.

I also have to agree. I think that is why we see our corners play off the line so much. Williams is alright, but not as good as advertised. Look what Sharper is doing over in New Orleans...I believe he leads the league right now in INTs?

What does everyone think of Asher Allen? My roommate says that he's read that Allen is always asking the coaches what he can do to improve on his play and what he needs to do the get a chance to start. The coaches are reportedly very pleased with his work ethic and willingness to do extra work after practice in order to improve. Is this guy a real talent, and would they give him a chance to start over Paymah? Certainly can't imagine that we could downgrade from some of the play that Paymah gave us on Sunday.

Our linebackers stink in coverage as well. Neither EJ or Greenway can cover even an average tight end. Safeties take poor angles and are late on the ball. We run the softest zone in the history of pro football.
