MN Deer Hunting Licenses

I asked:

Can I use my main tag first and if I were to harvest my 1 deer then able to purchase a bonus tag to use on an antlerless after that as long as I am hunting a managed or intensive harvest zone after taking the first deer? Some are saying must purchase bonus tags up front and first and use them before using your main tag.

I also asked about bag limits and zones so I had it in writing from a CO for my own use, thus the answer also has added information about bag limits and zones.

Here is the reply from the CO (in less than 1 hour to respond I might add):

You can use your main tag first, there is no order to filling the main tag or bonus tag. In lottery areas, it is buck only unless drawn for a doe permit. So in your lottery area, you will have to take a buck. Then you are done taking deer in the one deer lottery area. In managed areas, you can take either sex with your main license and one additional antlerless deer with a bonus permit. If you don’t fill your main tag in a lottery area, you can take 2 deer total in managed areas. 2 antlerless or 1 of either sex. If you take a buck in the lottery area, you can take 2 antlerless deer in the managed area if you purchase 2 bonus permits. Intensive areas are 5 deer areas, so depending on how many deer you’ve taken in lottery and managed areas, the rest up to 5 can come from the intensive area.

In your case, since you do not have a doe permit for the lottery area, you will need to take a buck in the lottery area, and if you do, you can purchase 2 bonus permits to fill in the 2 deer managed area, then take 2 more in the intensive area if you purchase 2 more bonus permits for the total of 5 deer. If you don’t take you buck in the lottery area, then you can fill your main tag in the managed or intensive area on an either sex deer, the remaining deer with bonus tags on antlerless deer. One buck per person per year. Hope this helps.

yeah, there was breakdown in communication with that CO, not sure where it was, but somebody had their wires crossed. Even the regs say it doesn't matter what order you use your management or regular tag. At least now everybody knows, and knowing is half the battle.

Can I be the final answer? I've always wanted to say that .. Trigger, Jameson, and Bear are correct. Also, the CO gave a perfect answer and if he/she are reading this, thanks! Thanks also to you guys who clarify some of the information that's out there.

I'll say again that I get the fact that it can be confusing if you hunt different areas and different seasons. However, that's the tradeoff to getting to hunt different areas and different seasons.

Icornice,

It sure is nice that you check on this site and keep up with all 10,000 questions we have, thanks.

mr

No problem. I've always I value the high standard this board places on information exchange and the high quality of the members. But, it's really 2,500 combinations of the same 4 questions smile

I think some of us on here have a pretty good understanding of what the regs say, so those of us that do, will continue to try and help answer the 2500 different combinationis, of the same 4 questions. Thanks again Lou.

I give credit to all the people that come on here and ask questions.

Ok, so i haven't read through this whole post and I'm sure somebody has brought the question up but I tried for the first time and purchased my rifle and bonus license online. Now I have a print out or reciept but how do I physically "tag" my deer if I don't get my real license in the mail by Friday?

thanks,

mr

I think you better cross your fingers and hope you get it. Its not like a small game license or waterfowl license where the piece of paper is good for like 45 days. If it doesn't show up by Friday, I think you could probably go to any ESL and have them print a duplicate, but they will charge you for it. I don't think your reciept/online license will count at all as a license. Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear. You might want to contact the DNR directly about this one.

I was going to buy my license online last week, and i wasn't going to risk my tag not showing up in time.

Good Luck,

I would say buy a duplicate the day prior to hunting season if it hasn't showed up yet....don't wait till the season is open, and even a duplicate may require you to wait a day to use it.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
