Removing arrow from deer??

stick

Recommended Posts

Well I connected for my first time on an archery harvested deer last weekend. I was shooting a rage 2 blade, and didn't get a pass-through. I tried pulling the arrow and it would grab on a rib (presumably) so I unscrewed the arrow and just recovered the broadhead while (carefully) gutting the deer. Is this common, or should I push it through or what?

Thanks for any recommendations.

I think you did the right thing with unscrewing them. I have had a few pass throughs but you just need to remember when gutting that the broadhead is still there so not to be the only thing that has blood all over the place. If you do push it through careful of the fletching so not to screw it up.

Thanks for all the supporting comments. Never counted on not being able to get the arrow out. I do have pix, but never figured out how to post them. The deer was a yearling doe and I decided to shoot and get that first one down based on a good shot presented so I knew it'd be a clean kill.
