Juan Grande- white spider grubs on 1/8oz mushroom heads. The mayflies were going nuts but we managed to tough it out until about 10:45pm. We did also catch a few early morning before sunrise on cranks.

Deitz- Found a good deal on a Triton TR21. It's no Bass Cat, but it works.

I was on the big lake on saturday since I got a place not to far... You are right LOTS of mayflies the little guys were on a suicide mission too, I watched hundreds crash right into the water and die... You know if any of you guys wanna go smallie fishing on the big lake I know a good place you can crash/charge the boat up not far from the SE corner of the lake

Nothing beats an 18 hour day on the water! That would explain the racoon eyes in your pics.

Actually Juan that is a birth defect that we both coincidentally suffer from. That was pretty crazy fishing smallies in the dark. It got dark earlier because the bugs blocked out the sun. Twas nuts.

I am not sure Juan, sounds like a fish tale to me. No fish can be stupid enough to be caught by the guy that was holding the 20" fish.....

Well, the guy in that pick wanted to fish with a 4' ultralite with 1" white Mr.Twisters for 4lb smallies. After about 4 missed hook sets he switched to a heftier rod.

Yep, he doesn't look like the smartest kid..... Can you actually catch fish on that setup, some would say no.

He'll outfish most people 3:1 with that crappie setup, but that average bass he catches is 10"

Do you or him ever catch any fish when a guide it not putting you right on top of them? I fish a lake in the east metro where we do really well on the bass.... It is a devilish lake if you know what I mean

Thanks alot for that spot by the way, that was a blast catching them on live bait. I am heading up on Sat. to the Battle Lake area for a week vacation with the family. There are smallies on this lake I will be on too.... Hopefully I will get some nice pics.

Sounds like fun, good luck! I'll be out on Lake Washington in Dassel this weekend. There's smallies, but I'm going with two walleye fisherman so it could be a struggle

I was out on the east side on sunday and got skunked. The water was extremely murky from all the wind. mixed with the bluebird sky it was just a tough situation. Did see 3 muskies and caught a PB walleye though. Im going to wait until we get a nice calm day again and i'll try bringing the little boat out there to see if i can get some of those ML smallies

I was out in the hurricane on Saturday. Mostly small fish, but a few in that 19-20 inch range.

That lake is going to BLOW UP in a few years. A lot of small bass and walleyes right now.

About 90% of the smallies I catch out there are 17-20 inches. I either catch big ones, or don't catch anything.

Good to hear others are getting some of the next generation.

I am going to try some rockpiles for some ML smallies, What baits should I pack along?

Suicks, Cowgirls and Mogambo grubs...... Those smallies are huge!

The basics, tubes, grubs, stick worms, topwater.

Not sure how fast you guys usually fish tubes, but there was a cool article in this month's In-Fisherman about snap/speed fishing tubes for smallies on big water. Combines the fast presentation of a crankbait or spinner to cover lots of water with the effectiveness of a tube.

You pretty much never stop reeling and almost fish it like a jerk bait.

I have seen Al do this with a small jighead and a 4" senko as well.
