Spring Ramblings and Reports

Recommended Posts

I think we fished the entire east end of Oneida lake yesterday. (Friday) Few perch, few big sunnies and Todd got the lone waldo. It was a bruiser tho!! cool Couldnt seem to find any active fish, Or maybe they didnt like our baits?? Or maybe my fish finder is Lieing to me? or maybe the storm messed the fish up or maybe just maybe it was just to CLOUDY!!! laughlaughlaugh or ummm, To many things to blame it on and way to many hours for the few fish we caught. Had a good time and weathered the first down pour in the grumman. Gotta get the bimini top..

Spent the day today tooling around the Catskills looking for trout. Mostly fished the upper end of the Willowemoc creek. Tank was tied up with moms HS reunion so I was solo. We have never fished this area so I did alot of driveing and walking. Found about a dozen trout that were interested in my flies. Nothing real big but some nice fattys in the 14-15 inch range plus some smaller...

Can you see the trout?

How about now?

And now? Yep I got him, but it was work. Couldnt cast where I was so I backed out and went up stream about 75 yards then came around even with him and used my jedi/ninja stealth and snuck to about 30 ft and floated a #16 parachute emerger right down his lane and picture perfect he rose up and smacked it...

This plump brown was my first fish for this creek. He attacked a weighted streamer in a deep run. Was definatly neat fishing the waters considered the birthplace of american flyfishing.

Not too many people around till I got down towards the bigger water so I headed for the big D around mid afternoon to hit my favorite rift hopeing to hit an evening hatch. No bugs at all working so I put on a tandem rig of wet flies and worked down through the rift. Near the end I hooked up with something solid. He was out of the water twice and took lots of drag. I thought he was bigger but just a nice healthy wild rainbow...

By then the skies were getting dark and I could hear some distant rumbling. I fished another 10 minutes till the lightening started. I had a good walk back to the car and made it just as the storm rolled in. Lost a few hours of fishing because of it but got to drive home in daylight...

Nice fish DC cool sweet pics It took about 10 seconds to find that fish in the first pic they blend in nice with rock bottom. There is one thing about trout when they are in that depth and they take off they are like a ROCKET and then trying to pick them out again even with glasses on sometimes still hard to pick out.Nice job smile

Fished E Banks with the misses today. Made many a drift and marked lots of fish in strategic locations but was only able to get 1 Sunny out of the deeper water. Moved around alot and found some large and small mouth bass and a few hammer handles to play with.. Crystal is looking like a lobster and movin kinda slow since she spent quite a bit of time on the lounger in the boat catchin rays. Took a pic of the sunny cause it looked real pale compared to all the others ive caught but didnt post cause i had a lung dart hanging from my mouth and dont think it would make a good pic.. Headin back to Oneida in the am with a buddy hopefully to wack some waldos..

I have been fishing for the walleyes in oneida on the east end for the past 3 days we have been doing OK nothing great. The fish we have been catching are healthy and ALL of them have empty stomachs for what reason confused. The north shore and south shore on the east end where the weeds usually grow are not there, making it tough to target these fish where you do find vegitation there are fish there and you can catch them. The bait in the deep water 20 to 30fow is unbelievable BIG pods of them and you just about have to drop your jig on the walleyes heads to get them to go and the worm harnesses other people are useing aren't doing much either...Time to get back at it maybe today will be better tired.

Doug, Will give you a call in a bit. the grumman is in the garage right now so if ya wanna look her before we can hook up and fish you could just stop by whistle. Then we can go down stairs and sit at the bar and have a beverage.. gringrin..

Since ive lost a bunch of my worm harnesses allready this year Im wonderin if it would cheaper for me to put my own spinners together? and get the meltin pot outta retirement and mold my own bottom bouncers too? Anyone know of anyone local that sells the beads and blades for the spinners? Probly end up going to gander or bass pro i guess..

You can get all that stuff from Gander but I'll tell you right now between all me and my 2 buddies we pretty much wiped the Cicero location out of beads and blades. LOL You might want to try the Rome one first.

I'm not sure if I'm hitting Oswego tomorrow night (up to my buddy, he has the rods and boards). If he decides to not go I'm going to hit Oneida after work, I'll probably be leaving from the South launch.

Even with us having jobs, Tank, I would still be worried laugh

Every time I fish with you...all I do is soak up the info that you leak whistle

I am all over it already...one of the most Premier Fine Dining Restaurants/Spa in the area is going to be interviewing me on Tuesday. I may be back in the Finger Lakes before long, boys.

Happy Fathers day and Happy fishing to all this fine Sunday!!!
