Truck on Centerville?

Jughead

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Grandpa Jug here! Do you think a truck will be safe on Centerville tomorrow evening coming off the beach? I will have my young kids with me, that's why I ask-If I can't drive I may not take them.

Thank you and have a great weekend.

Seen a lot of vehicles out there today. Is your concern ice thickness? if it is, that would not worry me. you should just drive to lake and take alook yourself if you have a chance and see if your comfortable. There will be vehicle going off access tommarrow as you watch. I don't think there is a spot on the lake that has not been drove on, the lake has been pounded this year. I live next to it. just watchout for right next to road area between the lakes

I'm still driving on Lower South Long in Brainerd with my 3/4 ton.

Even with the warm up we've had, the ice doesn't melt that fast. It's still a solid 25 inches up here. With that said, I'll probably only drive on it for a few more days. After that I'll use the ATV.

I told my wife last night before I drove out to watch out the window. If I go in, call 911 and drive the snowmobile out to pull me out with the tow strap in the back.

Kinda freaked her out. She begged me not to drive on it but I assured it it's still okay and I was just kidding her.

I would say walk out if you're even the least bit worried.

Or, walk out a little ways and drill a hole- take a good look at the thickness and condition of the ice. If it looks clear and solid and there's 18 inches or better- you'll be fine.

If it's looks air pocketed or honey combed than don't drive.

It's real simple, "when in Doubt don't drive out" asking others if you should drive out, and you get a concenus telling you that you should be fine. Does not make the ice safe.

Make your own call! your extincts will be right!

There were twenty or more vehicals out there last night and a dozen or more again this morning. The lakes firmed up overnight and there wasn't much for standing water on top this a.m. I measured 24" of good ice where I was at. Bring your cleats though as it is slippery out there.
