ice fishing in the rain

I was out April 5th last year - last day of ice fishing for me last season - and it rained off and on. Got some really cool pictures of storm clouds rolling through just south of Lake Minnetonka. I kept an eye on them because I didn't want to be the highest point on the ice if the lightning came my direction. shocked

I don't mind fishing in the rain, but make sure you dry your canvas out well. Also, check inside your sled and buckets, etc. for water, I've had a few flashlights and leathermans and stuff like that get wet because I didn't realize how much water was coming into the house.

The last warm spell we had we had a day when it was raining and I believe it ended up as snow that night, where I went out. I sat in the rain for a little wile and caught lots of bluegills till my friend came out with his larger shack and we set up for crappies. We had pretty good luck but it was definitely different then fishing in the snow. We learned the letting your shack thaw out the hard way this year. It was not from that storm but other times when he did not let it thaw out. He has an ice cube and we wore the zipper out this year. First the ice caused one of the zippers to come off, then the zipper started getting real messed up later when there was more ice in it. Right now we can only close the door half way. He is going to get a nice metal zipper put on it for next year.
