More than one buck a year?

This may be a stupid question....but is there a legal way to shoot more than one buck a year in Minnesota. So if I shoot a buck bowhunting can I shoot one with a rifle later in the year? They are two different zones if that has anything to do with it too. Thanks

Actually, if you live in NW minnesota, within a few certain counties, like I do, you can take a buck by archery and firearms. It has been this way for quite a few years now. It was one reason I started bowhunting. By the way, I live in Roseau county.

Ya dere-guys! I asked this very question of the DNR this year because I couldn't find EXACTLY where it says that you can't take two bucks in the regs. Other than the extreme NW corner of the state (Lake of the woods), you can only take one buck per calender year. Another bit o' info--you can only use one bonus tag in one bonus permit zone per year. That means if you use a bonus permit while bowhunting in a bonus permit zone, you won't be able to use another bonus permit (bow or gun) in another bonus permit zone. You can use up to 4 bonus permits in Intensive Harvest zones. The maximum harvest by one hunter per year is 5 deer, only one can be a buck. You can use any permit first (regular license or bonus permit).
The regs refer to bucks as deer (the limit is one deer except in the two-deer area....). DNR---it would be nice if you would clarify it to read "No one may take more than one BUCK per calender year, except..."
I wonder how many people shoot more than one buck a year because they don't understand the regs.

I didn't realize we could take two bucks in the far NW corner, thanks for information.
I hunt between Itasca state park and Bagley in a town called Alida... I wish we could take two bucks there as I've seen alot in the area!

Thanks guys- Well I'll have to think a little bit more now before I let that arrow fly. I am not hunting the northwest area so I can only get one buck. But thanks for the offer to go to WI but I already go there for deer hunting....been doing it for the last 10 years at my cabin. Well thanks again guys.

Tombows "Another bit o' info--you can only use one bonus tag in one bonus permit zone per year" is almost accurate, again the vague nature of MN regs,we now refer to all extra tags as "bonus" wether mangement or intensive. The one area restriction only applies to "bonus" tags used in "Managed Deer Permit" areas, meaning that you may only use 1 "bonus" tag in one "Managed Deer Permit" area per year, though, as you stated, you may still use other "bonus" tags in any "Intensive Deer Permit" area.

Yeah Cooter, ya opened yourself right up...so where is your cabin? I have a non-res.-WI tag to use up, got a place up by Rhinelander (where my folks live) but something closer.....

It would be nice if the MN DNR could just make it a little more clear when they write the regulations. Make it ***** proof, 'cause sometimes I ARE ONE!

Ok I just moved here a year ago from upstate New York and the rules were pretty simple and I grew up in Iowa and there I thought the rules were pretty simple. I have a bow license which I believe is for either sex, a multi zone Buck license and 1 bonus permit. I didn't read nor was I informed that I could only shoot 1 Buck. So your saying that If I shoot a buck in October with my bow, that my multi- zone Buck license will become null and void unless I go to the northwest corner of the state? I should get my money back then because I won't make it up there. I will be hunting in 3A with my gun and several places with my bow. In New York I could shoot 3 bucks and 2 does! 1 bow, 1 shotgun/rifle, and 1 muzzle loader.

Sorry, Minnesota only allows 1 buck per calender year for any hunter, except a portion of the state by Lake of the Woods (NW-MN). Shoot one with your bow and you can't shoot another with your gun. If you have questions about the regs and what they mean, get on the MN DNR HSOforum and ask them to nail it down for you, then suggest that maybe they could word it differently in the printed and online Regs.
