I'm not sure what took place, but cabbage in 3 muskie lakes I fish is pretty much gone, compared to the mid-1990's. There is a plant that resembles cabbage, that seems to have taken over in the lakes I fish. I haven't pulled a cabbage weed out of any of the 3 in the past 5 years nor do I see the familiar heads that top out during the summer months. I'll list the names Alexander,Shamineau,Mantrap and Mantrap I'm only talking the big lake.

Leech Lake used to have huge sections of cabbage weeds. They grew from the break nearly to shore for miles. That was in the 70's and 80's. Now you have to look for a small patch. Back in those days they were called the "Musky Beds".

The cabbage grows to the top and the seeds are dispersed when they are mature. The constant and increased pressure has resulted in most of these plants never reaching maturity. The tops are ripped off or chopped off.

The result is evident. Hardly a cabbage bed to be found.

It isn't necessary to rip over and through these patches. Fish the edges. Please think long term.
