10,000 Casts
hmm... Someone was telling me that it has something to do with the pollination being stopped and it was slowly decimating the larger weed beds. It was interesting to say the least. Here-Kitty-Kitty
ya you can cut them down to the first leaf split off. As long as you dont pull the root system out of the silt and mud. Even if you do weeds spread so fast that it really doesn't hurt the population. The worst nightmare of reeds and weeds are crayfish.
Musky Buck
I'm not sure what took place, but cabbage in 3 muskie lakes I fish is pretty much gone, compared to the mid-1990's. There is a plant that resembles cabbage, that seems to have taken over in the lakes I fish. I haven't pulled a cabbage weed out of any of the 3 in the past 5 years nor do I see the familiar heads that top out during the summer months. I'll list the names Alexander,Shamineau,Mantrap and Mantrap I'm only talking the big lake.
Musky Buck
There are a few pockets still in the lakes, but not like what it was, milfoil in alexander is an issue, not sure on the other 2.
leech~~
Musky, read the first port again. It's because you have pulled all the tops off the weeds with your big bad Musky lures and killed them all!
tweedlap
Leech Lake used to have huge sections of cabbage weeds. They grew from the break nearly to shore for miles. That was in the 70's and 80's. Now you have to look for a small patch. Back in those days they were called the "Musky Beds". The cabbage grows to the top and the seeds are dispersed when they are mature. The constant and increased pressure has resulted in most of these plants never reaching maturity. The tops are ripped off or chopped off.The result is evident. Hardly a cabbage bed to be found. It isn't necessary to rip over and through these patches. Fish the edges. Please think long term.tweed
Musky Buck
lol, why would I purposely cast into the weeds since I never have caught one when my rig has been fouled, you're a character Leech.
