5 Houses Hit on Sullivan

Well...just an update.

I was up to Sullivan and noticed an orange "thing" in the ditch. I stopped and it was the lid off of a plastic box that I kept my tipups in. Had my name on it as well. I walked the ditch and found a box that I kept my small lantern in as well. Seems really wasteful to steal and then throw it away.

Lawdogs had been tellng me they had a lead...that I would be called to ID items...but nothing ever materialized.

Kind of sad though...I spoke to another house owner who I noticed had boarded up a window. He stated he had been broken into as well with minimal loses...he said others had been as well.

If this continues...and I beleive it will...I fear a confrontation will occur with some frustrated sportsman and some dirty thieves. Unfortunately, it will/may turn violent and the victims will become the guilty.

Please do not reply with the condoning violence arguement...I am not nor am I threatening any one..I really do not want to hear it...just a frustrated guy with an opinion.

Hey Steve sorry to hear about your house cuz that sucks big time to loose that much equipment over $1000 easy. Its frustrating but this happened to a college friend dad's permanent ice house out on Sullivan too, a few years ago. They had it locked and had all their combo poles, heater, tackle, etc stolen, and they are locals there too, that just live north of Richardson Corners. So I'm guessing its the same dinglings that are up to it again. I fish Sullivan quite a bit in the winter, so I can keep an extra eye out for ya, but alot of the houses are being pulled off now. There was quite a few out there this winter compared to last too and grant it I'm not on the Sullivan everyday but these guys who break into the houses have to do it in the we hours of the night, cuz I've fished out there till 10 or so at night and have gotten up early to fish the morning bite by 4:30..5 am-ish.

I was thinking of leaving my spear house out there, but now I won't be doing that any time soon. Whats wrong with people, no respect for others or their property or for land for that matter if they dumped some of your things in the ditch. I haven't been in your situation yet Steve but your handling alot better than I would I'll just tell you that much.

Good Luck to Kris at sections and the rest of the boys at state in the next week. Tell him to not worry about Sazama cuz he's a wuss and overrated (Perham upperweights just try to outmuscle you, be quick & think on your feet and just tire em out), and also to watch out for cradles off of the leg rides & single leg takedowns. Perham's very well known for that, especially the leg riding, well at least they were (99-06) when my cousins from Minnewaska would wrestle Perham in sections and dual meets so I got see Perham in action alot as I wasn't the best wrestler. Just a little bit of info for ya, sorry to go off topic for everyone else but yeah I'll keep an eye out the next time I'm on Sullivan. Hope you find criminals to get some justice or at least recover the engraved poles cuz you can't replace those even with the best st. croix or genz stick (if they still make em) ice rod combo ever made!

I dont know anything about permanents but I have been robbed also a couple times. If I was in an area that had this trouble I would go to a bank and get those dye packets and find a way to color the guilty. Lets see some thieves that could keep from opening a box marked "Loose Change" or "Beer" or "Lottery Tickets". Or all 3. A real dumb one would be tye died by the end of the night.

Since the perms are to all be off as of Monday, it may be wise to watch for any stray shacks that appear abandoned after that date. Stolen ice shacks may be altered in appearance as was the last one found so if something looks odd, it may be worth a closer look.

My reasoning is if the stolen shacks are still out there they may abandon them rather then risk taking them home and getting caught. Especially if they know sportsman are looking for them.

HSO eyes on the ice may spot a few lost shacks yet...ya never know?

It is also feasible the DNR may confiscate a shack or two that was abandoned but was also ripped off prior, so I would also check with them if I had lost a shack, ya never know it may pop up that way too.
