Fishing with 2 poles?

I heard on the radio this morning that they might pass a law that will allow us to fish w/ 2 poles. I figured it might be a good discussion. What do people think about it. How will this affect the fish population?

Personally, I think if WI can manage then we should be able to as well. Of course, there is a lot more potential for those who abuse the system already to do so even more.

If ya want to discuss that on here..feel free...you won't get as dizzy trying to keep up with it. Two lines for catfishing sounds good! I know none of us on here knows how well it would work either grin

I’ve stated elsewhere that I support being able to use 2 lines. There are good arguments on both sides of the fence though.

Catch rate will increase and most likely harvest will as well. By how much is the real unknown.

I’m primarily a sport fisherman, so it wouldn’t bother me one bit to have a tighter bag limit or slot, but that can’t be said for everyone else.

I’m fine with it either way, but I would be happy to see it pass.

Throughout all the arguments though, I still haven’t seen a good rebuttal to why it’s ok to use 2 lines in the winter here and also how neighboring states are able to sustain a quality fishery and allow multiple lines.

I moved here from WI last year where you can use 3 rods. Salmon/trout, carp/sucker, and cat fishing were the only times I used all three and that was usually just to find out what was working and then switching down to one or two. Most the time running that many rods loses more fish than it catches when they are hitting. When they aren't its nice to have though.

I trust a barbless circle hook for rannel rats (but) I'd be scart to pinch my G-Mag down eek

I forgot one problem with mudeye fishing with two lines tho...you gotta use up two of those nice 8" bullheads! My(used to be) secret bullhead spot has taken a real hit too. I think the bait might become scarce. We need to use sunfish..two sunfish grin

I used to dream about moving to MN and enjoying the long ice season however I like using multiple lines all year and the option of using bluegill for bait. I have more good fishing options than I can take advantage of. Good luck getting the law changed; I think I'll enjoy what I've got. I will say that when you can use three lines for cats you really lay out more money for gear.

Isn’t it funny grin

My bullhead spot at times will only produce 7-9" river mules, 9"-12" walleyes, a nice bass once and awhile and not one bullhead crazy. I hate that grin Most times it is a gold mine for bullies.

I have got some of the biggest gill's I have caught fishing for bullheads. They sure like chunks of crawler off of the bottom.

Then to beat it all last spring, a small creek by my house during the sucker run one day would only hold jumbo perch grin They must have been spawning, because I know the lake the creek is connected to has some perch in it, but I never knew 9-11"'ers smirk

I never thought I would have so much distaste in catching the above species. It always seems this happens when your bait tank is low and you are on your way down or you have a small window of time to stock up your bait tank grin.
