get yourself a marcum lx-3 or lx-5. You will never have interference again. Best units out there. More power. Even the vx-1 pro would be a good option as it has more power than the fl-8. More power means less interference, better readings in weeds and deep water. Go marcum. You wont go back. I garuntee it.

I have the Marcum Vx-1 and I love it! It has all the high end features like zoom and it is less than half the price of its competitors. I dont know if the deal is still going on, but I got mine at Gander for 200 dolars. I think that is the most value you can find for a flasher. Hey , with the money you save you could buy a gps or put money towards something else.

ya, either the fl8 or like a vx-1 are great for a first flasher because they are so simple. Just turn it to ur depth and you can read bottom and see fish. If you get like an 18 or 20 there is a lot more you have to figure out, like how to see how deep you are because theres like a million different scales lol

I would highly recomend a LX-1 or 3 to start. If you find more you can sell it and move up. The LX-5 will give ya more power and the dual ducer. I got sick of the old vex humming and went to a Marcum and wont go back. The new Birds look good as well but only time will tel on them. I never buy anything the 1st years they come out.

time and time agian the vexilar is the most used and the easiest to use flasher out thier. I have used a fl-8 a fl-18 and a marcum lx-3 and the vex's are easier to use. to find a used one that is at a reasonable price is hard becuase they are really reliable machines and dont loose thier value, you can sometimes save money by sigining up for the big box credit cards. the are price protected so finding one with a red tag is tough( can be done tho) gander and the big c have thier store brands too so savings thier... good luck

WHAT IS THE BEST FLASHER?

Marcum LX5 has the best target separation of the traditional flashers. That is what a flasher does isn't it? I've heard that a graph can provide better separation (and then there is the showdown which on paper should be sweet), but I own them and have used them and they don't compare to the info you can get off a flasher by an experienced user IMO.

If at all possible, try to test out a few units before you buy one. They all work, and when it comes down to it, it is a matter of personal preference. I have used vex's for over 15 years (without one single problem with them), and have fished with LX5s, LX3s, and the new ICE 45. You could not pay me to trade my Vex for any of these. I have friends that would not give up their Marcums. Makes for some good-natured arguments on the drive up to the lake....

I have a showdown and I will back it up 100%. I've ran a showdown with a vx-1, and two fl-18's in the same shack w/ NO interference. The vx1 and fl18's had interference everywhere. The key is the showdowns channel settings. Its a great unit, and at 250 bucks! In the end its all about what you can afford. If i could afford a fl-20, i'd have one.
