What's you your favorite (entertaining & informative) Musky fishing book and/or video?

From the few videos I've seen and owned, my favorite is In-fisherman: The Great Musky Hunt. Probably seen it about 1,000 times, a true classic - it never gets old.

As for books, I don't have a favorite. Read a few but can't put them in this category yet.

The Golden Age of Musky by Linders Angling Edge is a good one. Alot of good info and exciting to watch.

Jimmy Linder gets so pumped up in this one you would think he's going to jump out of the boat.

I have read Muskies on the Shield, also alot of good info . I believe there is a DVD out on this one also. A definate read though.

Muskies on the shield is a very good, book and dvd, the dvd has outstanding topwater action on film.

The badfish dvd's are all entertaining. Big blades, big fish has some good boat side action. The old in-fish ones are classics. The golden age and modern musky magic by the lindner boys are well produced and entertaining.

As far as books Muskie! by russ warye (sp?)has history and lake specific info. Muskies Maina Style is decent, Muskies Suck will make you laugh. Ramsells compendiums are really indepth and good wintertime reads.

My to read list consits of time on the water, the one that Rob Kimm and Jack burns did, and one of Tony Rizzos books.

As far as information goes I'd give thumbs up to the book by Rob Kimm and Jack Burns. It is perfect for someone who's never heard of a musky before but I would just as quickly recommend it to anyone who thinks they have this figured out. I just can't think of the name - maybe the author can chime in. Its not about hotspots and hot lures its about understanding the basics of what to look for and what to try. It really does a good job of breaking down all aspects of musky fishing.

Got to agree that the movies by the Linders (wether it be In-Fishermen or Linder's Angling Edge)are alltime classics. Personally enjoy the Greatest Muskie Movie ever made....."What color was your dog?" Have watched a lot of the newer stuff and it is all good stuff. The one that I haven't seen yet and want to get is the Maina/Gillespie DVD that came out. Have watched Muskies on the Shield about a million times and was lucky enough to fish with [PoorWordUsage] last summer and he took me to almost all of the spots in the movie. Also, got an on the water lesson from him about the SECHI Effect. Unbelieveable!

Books....the are so many different ones out there that will teach you or humor you with their stories. Had the chance to read Time On The Water, and am trying to convince my wife I should be doing that! Not going over so well. Steve Heiting has some really good books out, Maina has good books, and one of the funniest is a book by Ken Jackson. Think it is called "Don't Fish Angry". The story about the reef hawg makes me about pee myself.

Hiya

HugoBox - Thanks for the kind words... The title is "Pro Tactics: Muskie" It's part of a "Pro Tactics" series - so don't blame me for the silly title smile

I'm pretty happy with how that one turned out, and I'd have to give my vote to "Muskies on the Shield" although I'm biased on that pick too smile

I don't watch fishing shows or videos much. (To me it's like the difference between sex and pornography. I like to do it, not watch it wink ) But the first In Fisherman muskie video is pretty neat just for some of the historical footage in it. The "Shootout at Deer Lake" footage where a fish tailwalks all the way around the front of the boat is pretty awesome. A lot of the building blocks of modern muskie fishing are on there - burning bucktails, fishing the wind, modified jerkbaits... Plus Doug Stange looks like a kid and Larry Dahlberg still has hair... Cool stuff.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

As far as entertaining videos, there's way too many to list. But I haven't seen anyone do a better job in terms of an educational DVD than Gregg Thomas has done. He just released his second one and both are excellent. Plenty of entertainment in them as well. But the focus is definitely on teaching in his videos.

I was going to say Greg Thomas new videofor educational or also Brad Hoppe with Red Fin outdoors and Muskie Mayhem came out with another one called Prefect Timing. That has some shots that I have never seen in any movie before, which are sweet.
