I cant believe im admitting this but I dropped my rod down the hole on lake mill lac this weekend.( the case of beer had nothong to do with it) The worst part was I could see it but wasn't able to fish it up. Just thought it was a funny story and wondring if anybody has ever done this or am i the only one-who-thinks-I-am-silly.

Nope your not the only one! I was fishing the chaska ice fishing tournament and in this tournament a small fish can even place. So after countless potato chip sunfish i finally hooked up with what felt like a nicer fish. I got it to the bottom of the hole and I saw that it was a decent crappie. About halfway up the whole it decides to fall off so i quick drop my pole and reach down to my elbow to grab the fish. Thankfully i grabbed the fish and raised it out of the water to show my buddy proud. When I turned around I noticed my 1 week old pole was gone and saw a nice fat red line going to the bottom of my marcum! Never got it back... but thankfully that crappie got me 17th place!

Booted a cheap rod holder down the hole and it was also on LOTW. I have thrown lures down the hole but it was one of those deals were you cut the tag end off when you put on a new lure on but in reality I cut the line to the lure and tossed it down the hole.

I spilled a huge box of ice jigs in my house last year. Ended up losing 13 of them. 2 years ago on URL my buddy was using our friends hand auger to drill a tip up hole. He thought it was stuck in the last layer of ice so he went to lift it up. Turns out the pin holding the auger to the handle had fallen out. So he lifts up and down goes the auger blade. He had obviously made it through the ice. In Oct we were trolling cranks on mill lacs and I had forgot my head lamp. So I was using my phone for a light to read my line counter and knocked it out of my hand with the butt of the rod. Never caught a fish, but my buddies kept telling me to give the wally's a call and see where they were hanging out at.

I was fishing out of the hole i dropped it in, just kinda laughed at the whole thing. Then...My rod tip went down fast! I caught it with my jig! Pulled it out of the hole no problems! Made my Day~!!

I had a tip up all set up with a shiner once. The flag went up and the line was ripping off. All of a sudden the tip up fell a part and all the pieces went to the bottom of the lake. I had to look at my friend and say "did that really just happen?" I cannot tell you how many sunglasses I have lost as well.

My cousin was fishing in my perm one afternoon, jigging with my brand new rod on one side, had a rattle reel down on the other. The rattle reel started spinning, so he sets down the rod and heads over to the rattle reel. As he gets ready to set the hook the NEW rod flies off the bunk and ploosh, into the hole.

He then sets the hook on the rattle reel, pulling up a northern that had some mono tangled up around it, sets down the northern and starts pulling up the mono, and up comes my new rod.

Down one hole and up the other. Talk about lucky!

Belive me when I say its Bobs Law, " Anything dropped or left unattended in a icehouse will find its way down the rabbit hole." I've seen 2 poles slide across the floor and then disappear, passed a box of jigs over a hole and had the lower half drop open dumping $75-125 worth of jig dead center in the hole. Not to mention plyers, flashlights etc. but I did get about 30 jigs back the next day fishing with a magnet. :-))

Years ago on LOTW we had 6 lines down in a big shack. I had a hit and set the hook on a big fish. It started peeling line and next thing rods all over the floor started shooting down the holes. I think only one was spared. Anyway I landed a big northern and like crothmeier said there was mono wrapped around it. We pulled every one of those rods back through that hole. Took us almost an hour to get them all set up again it was such a mess.

I also dropped a big 6 battery mag light down a hole on Mille Lac in the middle of the night. Could see it shining down there the rest of the night.

Last week, my buddy was using my pole. I reeled up to change a bait and my buddy thought it was funny to put his line down my hole because i was catching all the fish. Well, during the time he was feeding line to lower the bait, the reel fell off the rod and dropped down his hole. At this time he just looked up at me like i did something, while i heard something splash and realized what happened. I yelled at him to grab it but then it was too late. I watched the reel sink to the 26' bottom on my marcum. So he sat there for the next 5 minutes pulling up the line right? Well he finally got to the end and started pulling it up. He got it to the bottom of the hole and it caught and broke the line, and i got to watch it fall to the bottom the second time!

We were on red a few years back fishing in a group of three portys, six guys and set up fairly close to one another using the trucks for shelter as the wind was howling. A guy in the next house over hollers he has a huge pike on. One guy gets up and leaves his porty to watch the battle, one of his rods splashes down and the other guy in the shack dives and catches the second before it goes in. He opens the bail so the other guy can continue to fight the fish. We listen to the hooting and hollering and keep on fishing because the crappies were biting. I'm watching the bobber in one hole and it zips out of sight. I drop the rod I'm holding to set the hook and step on the handle so it doesn't go down the hole. I catch the crappie, turn to show my buddy and zip I see the rod skid into the hole. The guy in the shack 35' away hollers he has the huge pike right up to the hole. Line snaps and two of us end up with rods down the hole. The guy that had the bail open calmly begins to reel up and hollers I think I got that pike on, battles it for a few minutes and eventually pulls up a monoencrusted fish. Got one of the two rods back but unfortunately it wasn't mine.

We were fishing in a pemie on Minne Belle a couple years ago. We had just got a brand new $300 digital camera, and my wife thought it would be a great idea to take the camera and see how she works. I caught a couple small perch and my wife wanted to test out the new camera. Well she had on some knit gloves and fumble fingers dropped the camera down the hole. It had been out of the package for.... uhhhh.... 5 maybe 6 minutes and never had a picture on it.

last year at the perch tournament out of hunters on millacs my buddy dropped his button (reugalar pin on button with the number for the door prizes on it)down the hole. It flutterered quite a ways to the side of the hole but with a few new holes drilled and use of the camera we were able to finally catch it with a jigging rap. It was quite an effort as we got it part way up a couple of times only to have it fall beck off. It kept us busy as the fish werent biting except for one eye that came in and slammed the lure covering the button in mud. Had to uncover it and finally get it up. To top the story off, he won a fish tv camera with that button when they were drawing for the prizes. Pretty amazing.

Two winters ago, in Wisconsin, I was fishing with two tip ups in and jigging in a hole about 50 feet away. It was early winter so there was no snow on the ice. After about 30 minutes of jigging I look at my tip ups to see if any flags were set and noticed there was only one tip up. I looked down the hole and couldnt see anything. And it was a brand new tip up. I was pretty confused and mad at the same time.

Then the next weekend I went to that same spot. I was about to drill a hole with the auger when I noticed a piece of wood floating right below the ice. So I drilled a hole right next to the piece of wood and pulled it out to see what it was. Turns out to be my tip up from last weeekend!

Too bad there wasnt a fish on it!
