Scott K
Cliff Clavin? Long Story short every team in the league has chance now a days with the way the league is set-up. I'll even go out on a limb and say the Lions will be in the play-offs next year.... Now that is a small limb!
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted January 13, 2009 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted January 13, 2009 I think you need to revisit the beginning of the season and the numbers AZ was putting up. AZ may not have had a run of wins, but that doesn't mean the offense wasn't putting up some decent numbers like they are doing now. These are the numbers I am referring to when I claim that the Vikings could never achieve that level of play with the players they have on offense. Numbers do lie when one cherry picks. You compare Arizona's offense and Minnesota's offense. We all know defense wins Super Bowls. So compare Arizona's defense to the Viking's defense. It's a differant number.
LMITOUT
It appears that AZ's offense got further than MN's defense, so that didn't quite pan out this year leaning on the D which AZ didn't have to do. Since this thread is about MN's illustrious QB, I think it all comes back to the poor performance of that position (along with a rag-tag corps of WR's that are overpaid) and that was the downfall of any realistic chance they may have had at going deep into the playoffs. They're close, but not quite there yet. Agreed, that is exactly what was the reason. Though I would put poor coaching when it matters in there as well along with clock management. james_walleye
I think what you are missing is that arizonas defense this year was what minnesotas offense was. Very lackluster. They were 26th in the league in the most important stat, points given up. Contrary, Minnesotas offense yardage wise and points wise was middle of the road. 2 years ago when Indy won the superbowl it was because their defense found a new level in the postseason that they never found in the regular season. Arizona has won 2 playoff games because their defense has risen to a level not seen this season. Minnesotas offense didnt. But i can guarantee you next season a lower seeded team again will rise up and play great ball unexpectedly. A team that isnt suppose to win a playoff game will make a run. That is the NFL of today. ANYONE who makes the playoffs can get hot and catch the breaks, no matter how "legit" you think they are. With the way the giants played to end the year last year what reason did we have to think they could even win one playoff game?? No one, NO ONE thought they were legit either. james_walleye
I wouldnt exactly say Berrian was a flop this year which is what you are implying. He led the NFL in yards per catch and became that deep threat the vikings were hoping for. Get the QB situation addressed and his numbers would be much better yet. They do need someone else on the other side though. I dont know if Rice hasnt gotten it yet or if constant injuries are holding him back that much. Trainman
Speaking of luck, shall we talk about the 6 turn-overs that Arizona relied on to beat Carolina? Nothing against the Cards. I'm in fact rooting for them, but they got pounded by both the Vikings and Eagles this year.Vikings beat every team in the NFC divisional round other than Eagles this year. Clearly a play-off caliber team with just a crummy QB and one-who-thinks-I-am-silly coach.

zepman
Well said Trainman. There's no sense in trying to figure out why some teams go further than others in the playoffs. As said by many posts in here, "some teams just get hot at the right time". Nobody knows why and we surely can't predict it before it happens or we'd all just move to Las Vegas and get rich betting on games all year long. zepman
LMITOUT--How do you explain the Indianapolis Colts early exit from the playoffs then. Great coach/great Q-back. Out in the 1st round as well.

You would then also want to bring up the many turn overs the Vikings had in the first have of the Arizona game.
LMITOUT
LMITOUT--How do you explain the Indianapolis Colts early exit from the playoffs then. Great coach/great Q-back. Out in the 1st round as well. Darren Sproles
zepman
Exactly... and if the Vikes would have advanced to the divisional or championship round you would have been saying Adrian Peterson.
LMITOUT
I think SD had a little passing to go along with that dose of Sproles. Not to mention the special teams yardage that Sproles racked up. RB's receiving: Westbrook: 3/83 yds Sproles: 5/85 yds Peterson: 0/0 yds
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted January 14, 2009 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted January 14, 2009 I think T-Jack is progressing nicely and very well may become a quality starting QB. For sure Philadelphia exposed some weaknesses that well may be inexperience with that type of pressure but also weakness at the offensive right tackle and WR didn't help. They also gave T-jack some valuable experience that may pay-off for us next year. Remember they were blasting Eli Manning, who had many more starts than T-Jack, in the 2006-2007 season as well. He had a better line and a better receiving core to go along with their stout defense to lean on.T-Jacks late season games leading up to the play-offs were pretty good considering his experience level. Not Pro Bowl caliber o even close but pretty good for as few games as he's started in his career. I think T-Jack will surprise all of you haters next year. FISHINGURU
won't take much to be surprised by t-awesome...i guess thats one good thing u t-awesome lovers have to look foward to....i'll be surprised when he finally throws for over 250 yards in a single game....even gus could do that so you can't blame the system...a number most qb's get on an average.berrian had a solid season considering the qb's he had throwing him the ball....he should have twice the amount of catches he had....almost 1,000 yards and 7 td's on only 48 receptions is pretty nice...34 of them catches were for 1st downs...and he averaged 20 yards a catch.....7 punt return tries and he took 1 of the 7 to the house....be nice to see what he can do with a decent qb....he hasn't had one yet in his career. fishin58
I have said it once and I will say it again, who really cares about stats. I care about the win!! T had 180 yards or whatever it was against the card but he had 4 tds...I would take that every time. But wait River had 308 yards last week and 3 Td's wow what a nice stat, but guess what they got kicked!!! Meanwhile Rothlesburger had 181 yards one td and a win... How pathetic he didnt throw for more then 200 yards.
PierBridge
Quote: Remember they were blasting Eli Manning, Tom Coughlin and Manning both were just about run out of town by the NY fans......OOOOPS Super Bowl Champs. How about 5 weeks ago in Phili... Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb were less popular then Osama Bin Laden....Now look at them. That's the knee-jerk reaction that a lot of sports fans have now a days and why it's a good thing we have professionals running these teams instead Joe Fan!. Some fans were just put on earth to Complain constantly!...

fishin58
Oh p.s check out week 13 stats future HOFer Kurt Warner posted versus guess who? Eagles 48- Cards 20...wow stunning...guess what, he also had 3 picks.
PierBridge
Don't bother wasting your time on this fish58 it's like talking to a brick wall! Let's face it there was a lot of EGG on these guys faces while T-Jack was winning NFL player of the week honors and playing as good as any QB in NFL during tha stretch he was reinstated. We knew they were going to pounce on T-Jacks less then stellar performance in the playoff's. They didn't care it was against the Best Defense in the playoff's and a D that hasn't given up more than 14 points in it's last 4 games and that other Pro Bowler QB's were struggling and throwing more picks.... So be nice and just let them feel good/justified about the their Crow thread!...
FISHINGURU
dont' worry guys t-awesome will be in the hall of fame soon enough....his 3 year project is done now...he's gonna come out on fire...just imagine what another off season will do for him!!he looks solid out there now under pressure..he don't lock onto 1 wr and goes through his reads....after that 4 td game ( al bundy) and his poise since then i'd say he's ready to take command now and lead us to the promise lands!! LMITOUT
I truly hope that T-Jack is the QB next year for the Vikes also. Then we can go through all of this again after a few weeks into the season next year.
