zipper frozen on fish house

I zipper keeps on freezing on my protable ice house. The only way I can use the zipper is when I let to warm up. I want to know what you guys doing when you have this problem Thanks.

ditto, i wanna know too cuz mine is doing the same thing, the only way i can get it not to do it is drying out the house 100% in the garage before going out

Try using wax. I use the kind that is used for bowstrings. It comes in a tube and is easy to put on.

Wax, parafin or better yet Beeswax, WD-40, even pencil lead will help keep it moving freely. Another thing you might try is to keep your zipper pulls in the 'up' position, that alone will help alot! Phred52

Mine freezes on the lower part of the door. So I just leave that part unzipped with the door away from the wind. It stays pretty warm even with it open.

I use a boot dressing called SnoSeal I think it has beeswax in it.

If you have nothing with you, use your fingers to warm it up, that works "in a pinch" (literally).

Get a very small propane torch. The kind plumbers use for soldering. They work great for all kinds of things that need quick heat. Mine froze this weekend too and ya just don't feel comfortable yanking on a frozen zipper. Don't rip it either. I have an Otter with a bum zipper and the canvas shop wants $75.00 to replace the zipper. I also agree with Teflon spray. Beeswax gets hard as a rock in 0 degree weather. I sprayed the poles of my Otter with teflon and the work much better in the cold. I wonder how that would work on the zipper. Hmmmmmm

Northlander gave this tip out earlier and it worked for me and it was just rub some Chapstick along the zipper. It will work a lot better if the zipper is dry before you apply it.

I have had this problem with my Frabill, but i just try and place the heater by the door so the heat goes along the zipper, and i havent had any problems, it gets to be a little problem if you are coming and going, but it does the job and keeps the moisture off the zipper.

Armor All spray is water repellent. Works well in these sorts of applications. It both repels water and lubricates.
