Hey Wobbler and Ted Nuge,

I'm a brimson hunter as well. We hunt on the Brimson/Toimi road just south of 16. We park our motorhome on the corner. I was up there last weekend and was talking to some of our relatives and the wolves are all around I guess. I hope this doesn't effect the season. I put some trial cams out, should be interesting to see what's out there this year. Can't wait! I love BIG WOODS hunting.

ddp,

I know exactly where you hunt. The wolves have been everywhere this fall. I have seen and heard more wolves than in years past. Nothing like finding 3 big piles of you know what by your deer stand and it is filled with deer hair. I am leaving tomorrow to make some final preparations for rifle hunting. By my description above to tednugefan you should know where I am hunting. 10 miles apart or so from you at the most. I am north of HWY 16 in fact just a little past making the turn to go to Brimson.

That's funny.

Yeah, my old man likes to hang around the RV and chit chat with passer-byers.

Only scared up a couple of grouse last weekend. Which direction are you from the RV?

We'll see ya in a couple of weeks. Old man is Duane, I'm Dustin.

ddp and tednugefan,

I clocked it from my shack to where you park and it is 4 miles from hwy 44 and hwy 16 meet this past weekend. My shack is located on road 418 and I am a ways down that. 3 of us shot about a dozen total over really 2 days of hunting. We saw most birds on the Pine Lake Access Road and some of the trails off that. Lots of vehicle traffic all around there this weekend. Are either of you seeing scrapes? We found lots of rubs and only 3-4 scrapes and we walked a lot!

wobbler,

I really didn't notice many scrapes or rubs. Just a few little rubs. I heard 2 seperate packs of wolves though which was a bummer. other than the lady and her sled dogs. My dad is heading up tomorrow to change the film in the cameras. I will post any cool shots..

Can't wait until opener! smile

ddp,

I hope they drive that buck you have been showing as your avatar down to me! Yes don't they have the shack down what we have always called the "dump road". There are 2 shacks about 1/4 mile apart on the right. There is a beaver pond on the right and once you get to the top of that hill, there's is on the left. I don't know which Maki is which but I helped the father out one day after he got stuck trying to pull over for another truck coming by about 4 years ago. The son I believe used to pull a camper because his girlfriend stayed and hunted too but last year he was not on the road like he usually is. My shack is the last one down the forestry road on the right.

gotcha...

Oscar and Ann were his Ferris's folks. They must be on the road before you because their shack is on the left as you are going in.

yeah, I have 4 pics of that buck... all from 8pm-3am. Nocturnal son of a gun.

Your talking the Seven Beavers road right? I am on that one. I believe there are Maki's on our road and as you are coming in off 16 they are on the left about 2.5 miles down the road right after 2 other shacks on the right and just past that beaver pond. Once the rut is on though our experience is they make mistakes during the day looking for does. Hopefully, that theory applies to you!

tednugefan,

There are some nice bucks around where we are at too. About 10 years ago my dad shot a 21 pointer (mainframe 14 pointer with stickers) that scored in the 160's with deductions. Another guy a few shacks down 5 years ago shot a 19 pointer. So you, ddp, and me have a chance every year to shoot a monster. The big factor for us like you guys is the wolves. If they are where you are hunting, the deer won't be for a few days. All my stand and trail stuff is done. Like I said I hunt 9 straight days and I always hope for a little snow. We seem to do real well when snow is on the ground.

wobbler and tednugefan,

My dad went up this week to change some film on the cameras. Nothing too exciting but at least no pics of wolves. a dozen does and 1 buck from 10/11-10/18.

ddp,

Looks like the typical "Basket 8" we call at our shack or the 6 pointers we see with no brow tines and see quite often. 2 and 1/2 year old buck that will go between 170-180# field dressed. Looks like to me he is working over a scrape and the scrape has the traditional licking branch. Thanks for the pics and the update. Can't wait to go to deer camp again!
