Opening Day Predictions

Recommended Posts

Our crew is always ribbing about who's going to do what on the Opener, so we always have the emails flying. Here's what I sent out this year. Return jabs welcome!

2008 Walleye Opener

It's coming soon the time is near

the Walleye season's almost here

Excitement is high, but predictions are low

Water is cold, will fishing be slow?

This year will be tough, requiring much will,

I'm glad I posess all the important skill

to catch sluggish walleyes and make them bite

the stringer I catch will be an impressive sight

All you wanna - be anglers can try as you do

to get opening day Gold on your lake or your slough

you better fish hard and use all of your wits

but you're probably better off calling it quits

I cannot be beat, there is just no match,

that a novice like you could come close to my catch

you may get a nibble, or at best a soft bite

but I will be nailing 'em with all of my might

My hands will be stiff and my arms will be sore

but I will keep catching and catching some more

Please don't be upset, and please don't me mad

when you see all the super success that I've had

You can try to do better, try harder next year

when you're fishing against me, you've reason to fear.

Good luck! I won't need luck, cuz I have SKILL!

I read this rhyme once and decided to puke and then again to make sure it wasn't a fluke. All of the talk and so little action, while you're fishing the walleyes will be on vacation.

Happy Opener!

It's an inside joke between you and your fishing buddies, it's pretty hard for someone outside of your group to jump into something like that. I thought TO's reply was pretty good.

I talk plenty of smack to my buddies and the guys I'm fishing with, don't really like talking smack to strangers though so I guess you'll have to wait. My philosophy is this ..... it's like they say in football .......when you get in the end zone, act like you've been there before. You can apply that to walleye fishing too grin.gif

Your attitude is cocky

and maybe that's fine,

but you could probably be outfished

with a stick and some line.

Your fish dinner on monday

will be short of a feast,

for he who catches the most

always talks the least!!!!

Happy Opener! Perchjerker, I like the endzone comment!

Fishermatt wake up

Your dreaming again

You fell asleep

In your chair in the den

You are not the best

And will never be

The one you look for

Is here, it is me

Your not even close

To the best fisherman

Not even 2nd or 3rd

When you fish like you can

On opening day

I know you will cry

When you find out

You cant catch a walleye

With my livwell full

And yours with no fish

Ill invite you over

I make a great dish

Stay home and save face

On opening day

Because trying to beat me

Theres no freakin way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Good Luck All

Yes the beer will be cold

And they will go down fast

Ill slam one down

Before evey cast

I sit here at my job

Working the night shift

With nothing to do

But rite this poem SH!T

I must stay awake

I cannot fall a sleep

The place is quiet

Not even a peep

I wish I was home

Laying in bed

With opening day walleyes

Resting in my head

Instead I am here

Reading the net

Thanking FM

For the info I get

With time on my hands

And nothing to do

I post another poem

Wile im slamming a dew

First it is walleye

Then it is bass

Next it is musky

They all kick my a$$

I love to fish

I do it alot

I spend hours and hours

On my favorite spot

Fall is the best

When the big girls eat

It may be cold

But its hard to beat

Opener is fun

Cant wait to get out

As long as its walleyes

And not slimy pout

I could do this all night

Just to stay awake

But ill end it now

For heaven sake

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
