Flathead Crystal Ball

After poking around a bit, and looking back at some historical stuff, this is what I think.

With the pattern we are in, I predict an outstanding holiday weekend of Catfishing.

A handful of fish will be caught before then especially during the Moore's Cat Contest. However it will really "break loose" during the long weekend.

You heard it here first ;\)

Let's review on the Tues following Memorial Day.

Three weeks ago, I was crazy as all get out and buying up gear for up coming flats trip. Two weeks ago getting ready big time with boat. Last week still on a high cloud. This week I am just plan in a dizzy state.

Just think to last year about now.

I am even thinking for opener this year, hitting ML for walleyes and pan fish. Last year I was on the MN for cats.

It has gott’s turn soon.

aHHHMMMMMM that will probably be me catching the handful and taking the rest of yours donations.... grin.gif

Is it too early to trash talk for the contest.

I think I might have to agree with Dtro on the long weekend. Unless of course we never hit the warm streak.... Looking promising next week with 60 for the most of the week

Pontoon went in the slip today. I hope to be the first one to find the bite whenever it starts.

St Croix is 44 degrees today according to the Stillwater Lift Bridge river gage. Water level is 8 feet high and the river is in a No Wake status. Do those sound like good catfishing conditions? One way to find out - Time to go Cattin.

Some Twins games on the radio this weekend. Might as well go chase some cats and listen to the games. Maybe I'll hit a catfish home run for the KOTC Leaderboard.

By the way - the St Croix was added to the Moore's Cat Contest territory. Better watch out Dtro and Larry. There is a new Sheriff in Town. Let the trash talking begin.

I got a very definite "Yes" to will the flats be biting soon. I guess I should have been a little more specific though. I mean, would a month be considered soon?

I just asked will they be biting after this weekend and got a definate "No".

Ok, this is rigged. A "maybe" for will they be biting after opener. The weekend after? "Signs Point to Yes". Well at least we should have fun during the tourney.

3 days away from the first flathead cat I caught last year.

Water temps were at least 15 degrees warmer, if not 20, and river levels were a bit lower as well.

More cold rain coming today as well. \:\(

My prediction... we get a streak of sunny day, 80 degree days. Bam! Game on!

The crystal ball tells me "signs point to yes" when asked if I'll catch my first flat of the year by the walleye opener. We'll see.

Last year my first 2 were caught in the early a.m. hours of May 5th. or 6th. during the first Moore's contest.

I think we are going to start seeing some accidental, or should I say, incidental catches of flats on cutbait while targeting channels.

Dang 8 ball just put the kibosh on that idea.

No doubt... She gets cold out there around 1-2am this time of year.

You shouldn't have to eskimo out to go flathead fishin. There is plenty of long cooler fishless summer nights. I feel no hurry to rush out to freeze my butt off until Im sure the kities are willing to come out and play.
