08 NFL Draft!

Excellent points FISHINGURU, could not have said it better myself!! I agree with you about Johnson, he is a stud. Played really well against top competition. He and Sharper could have a lot of picks now thanks to Mr. Allen's pass rush up front.

I did see that about the Jags. Ouch!! Tough to do that on a guy that has never played an NFL down. We have a proven STUD in Jared Allen!

If I remember right there was a thread posted after the schedule was released. A lot of people had the Vikings starting out 0-4. Anyone willing to change their minds yet? ;\) I think I predicted a 1-3 or 2-2 start and will stick with it. I don't think this team will jump out of the gates super strong, but like last year we will get stronger as the season goes on. The difference is this year we will win those last games to get in to the playoffs! (Week 16: Giants @ home) eek.gif

I thought the draft worked out perfect. Booty was ranked right with Brohm and Henne. Johnson was a nice pick in the 2nd and to still bet Booty in the 5th was great. I think he has a decent chance in this league. There have been worse prospects that have succeeded. I think week 1 we'll all know how the division will stack up. I really think the vikings need to get a week 1 win.

We will find out how good the Vikes are week 1 for sure. They will play in front of a national audience on MNF, face last year's division champ, and it will be the first time that everyone will play together when it really matters! I think we have an outstanding chance to win the division, but we gotta start it off with a week 1 "W"!

Draft Thoughts

Tyrell Johnson - The tackles and wide receivers available were not rated nearly has high as this guy. This man is quick and was a total value pick. He will be the anchor of the secondary within a couple season and should learn buckets from Sharper!

John David Booty - Great value and super accurate. He will put 0 pressure on T-Jack this year. The QBs will go T-Jack, Frerotte, Booty. This was a for sure pick up. Chilly has been high on Booty since last year and the vikings had a scout at every game this man played the last two years. He could be a great backup qb and possibly the future of the team if T-jack gets hurt or doesn't work out.

Letroy Guion - A bit of a reach and should have stayed in school. The fact that he was caught up in the cheating scandal pushed him out early. We could have waited to get this guy but has the ability to play this year and give the WALL some rest.

John Sullivan - Birk's future replacement...could see some time at right guard as well. The vikings have quite the pair of centers...ND and Harvard. Ideally the vikings give birk a 2 year extension and let sullivan learn from one of the best.

Jaymar Johnson - Very fast, but VERY SMALL. Does not ever project to be a receiver in the NFL but could make at impact on the return team if he learns the position. An interesting pick to say the least.

The draft would be a AB (college grading style). They did not meet the needs of OT and WR but did fill in at depth at many positions. The Vikings are confident in many of their starters but it would have been nice to solidify a future Tackle. Also a TE was a good posibility but the team is still confident in Shciancoe (there are also a nice crop of TEs next year).

Undrafted Free Agents - the vikings got 2 of the top remaining players and it will be nice to see if they can make the roster:

Erin Henderson - an absolute stud linebacker and if he can duplicate what his borther EJ did last year could make for a very nice Henderson Combo in years to come.

Marcus Griffin - this safety has the chance to make it on special teams and is coming from a program that knows winning. The vikings definately got younger at the safety position.

Drew Radovich - a solid tackle out of USC. Also capable as a guard. Started his final two years and could make the team adding depth to the OLINE.

Steven Hauschka - Top rated Kicker in this draft and was a definate surprise he didn't get taken. If longwell falters there is a real possibility this kid could take his spot and be the future kicker here.

CAN'T FORGET ABOUT JARED ALLEN: Has a motor that does not quit. Was able to dominate on a suspect Chiefs defense and led the NFL in sacks in just 14 games. Has some issues off the field but if he matures and puts them behind him could be an anchor to the vikings defensive line for many years to come!

I agree with the first 6 picks, but then there are some questionable ones after that! Pack, Bears, and the Saints picked above the Vikes? I dont know about that! Time will tell though!
