LODFFB
Just read about Tony Stewart entertaining offers to leave Gibbs. Which is fine everybody wants to make more money but How Much?$$ Unlike the other sports they never talk about the money, which is unique to Nascar. I wouldent quit watching if driver X got more than my guy. Just wondering you see their buses they live in on rain delay weekends (which is worth more than my HOUSE) and it looks like they live pretty comfortably in the special interviews. But I was curious why the tight secercy?
bassNspear
i think scott had a post as to how much they make. ill have to look to see if i can find it.
polarsusd81
In all honesty, I don't think Stewart is worried about the money. From what I have seen and heard, he doesn't want to be in a Toyota, and has very strong ties to Chevy. He is even still doing commercials featuring Chevy products, anybody see the latest Armor All commercial he did. I highly doubt you would see him driving around in a Tundra. What would happen if Hendrick dropped Mears for Smoke?
Uncle Bill
What about dropping the diminishing talent of gordini for a little shot of smoke ??
Sifty
Wrong personality for Hendrick. Maybe he would fit in over at RCR.Sifty
HOF#13
Stewart had an impromptu press conference last night about the situation. He did mention his close ties to GM and Chevrolet, but quickly added he has a good relationship with Toyota. He said it has nothing to do with anything being wrong at JGR. Teams know his contract is up in another year, and they started sending him offers basically. He said he is just taking his time to look over all of the offers and see if there is something there for the future. It looked to me like he was possibly more interested in getting part-ownership of a team as part of his new deal. He said a few teams have offered it. Haas-CNC was rumored to be one of the teams that offered partial ownership.
HOF#13
Here is the article I posted last year regarding how driver's contracts and salaries are basically structured...it mentions Jr. as he was involved with his employer switch at the time....Got this from a Marty Smith article on ESPN. Kind of interesting. I wondered how driver contracts were basically broken down."Drivers' annual salaries are broken down four ways: Driving fee: Drivers make a flat salary just for sitting in the seat every Sunday. Upper-tier drivers are somewhere in the $4 million to $6 million range. Percentage of winnings: Drivers and teams split the race purse winnings each week. Upper-tier drivers usually make between 40 and 45 percent of the weekly take. So if a driver wins a race and earns $1 million, roughly $450,000 is his and $550,000 goes to the organization for which he drives. Personal services: Most drivers have personal endorsement contracts that are subsequent to the primary and secondary sponsors on their cars. Current examples are the Gillette Young Guns and Coke Racing Family programs. The deals Junior just inked with Sony and adidas are personal services deals. These can be serious cash. Royalties: Each driver receives a percentage of sales from his merchandise. "Also...."It stands to reason that Junior's new deal with Hendrick will rival Jeff Gordon's as the richest in the sport. Gordon is making crazy coin, in part because he has an equity stake in Hendrick Motorsports as part-owner of Jimmie Johnson's team. Not that Junior will have equity in HMS. That's not what I'm saying. But I'm sure Mr. Hendrick has put a very unique, very lucrative package together for Earnhardt. Car dealerships, possibly? Just a guess. Neighbor_guy
A rumor came out last week or the week before on fan motor sports about smoke and the Hass ownership. At the same time they talked about tony finding out how much to buy out the remaining year on his deal and driving for hendric since he is a partial owner of a hendric backed team. All of tony's open wheel teams are bowties....

polarsusd81
Yeah, that is going to be my prediction. How could Hendrick go wrong with the 4 biggest names in the sport right now, in one garage? It would be a crazy team, and pretty much unstopable, unless you are Denny Hamlin.
candiru
I don't know if you could keep that many big-time drivers happy under one roof without some feeling like they are the second fiddle. It could be interesting.
