Two Lines??

TUMBLEWEED

I read in the sunday paper that the legislation to change the statewide limit to 4 fish is now dead. It won't happen this time around. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 2 line proposition was attached to that. It was in the outdoors section. I thought it was interesting that they noted: The DNR doesn't need legislation to change state fishing/hunting rules if they determine its necessary, but it was brought forth simply to stimulate debate amongst legislators.

For the enjoyment of the sport, I hope they get around to allowing 2 lines. I live in SD and we are allowed 2 lines for open water. It makes a day on the water by yourself a slight bit more enjoyable. And unless the fishing is outstanding, it allows you to keep a lure in the water at all times.

Ha more enjoyable, I get my girlfriend in the boat and with 1 1/2 people fishing I can't run 2 lines, but I am not the most coordinated person in the world either.

I would like to see it go to two lines per angler though, there are times it would be very useful

I knew a guy that used to come up to MN and he was a meat hog! He would fish 14 hours a day, run his tiller, chain smoke cigarettes and fish two lines all at the same time. He would come back with his 5 gallon bucket filled to the top with nothing but walleye tails sticking out! He used to cut his trip short by a day and would leave in the middle of the night to avoid getting stopped. I am glad to say he has not been up fishing for the past 10 years but his greed left a huge impression on me and really taught me to respect the lake and limits. I can do just fine with one line but if the law allows it I would pull two baits but would stick to whatever limits were in place.

Vexipro, I know it happens, and I've seen the exact thing you just described while fishing and also hunting, but in my case before, it wasn't what was happening, I was trying to make a joke on the difficulties and mishaps that can occur when you use more than one line.

I really don't understand the "need" to catch a limit everytime someone goes out. For me two lines could have the potental to increase my enjoyment, like you said, sturgeon and walleyes, cats and carp, anything for that matter, but I'm sure I would just end up with a more tangled mess.

I personally thought this was a rather stupid idea from the start. It was mentioned to cut the statewide walleye limit to 4 fish, but you could use two poles. This doesn't make much sense in my simple mind! If its thought people are catching too many walleyes, why let them use two poles? I realize we are all encouraged to practice sensible catch and release, but the more fish you catch, the more fish that will die, deep hooked, missed handled and so on. Just my two cents worth. rollineyes

The provision for two lines and the reduction of the daily bag limit are two separate entities, with one in the House and one in the Senate bills. Not much has happened with the outdoors related stuff lately but it should be coming up soon.

LMITOUT, that avatar is hilarious.

I would like two lines when I'm pan fishing. One out the other side with a sucker for northerns.

I suppose they figure allowing 2 lines, would cause many folks to go buy more equipment... extra poles, planer boards, rod holders, etc. More revenue, more sales tax, blah blah blah.

When the bite is good, one pole is enough, but when it's slow, an additional line would be nice. As someone said, especially when I'm fishing alone.

certain areas I fish I see suspended fish and fish on the bottom. Sure would be nice to run a deep lure and a suspended lure to find out what is the best bite when trolling. Doubt I would ever catch a limit even that way. Only place I have ever done a limit was at lake of the woods.
