Is this the 2005 White Sox Again???

Every expert had the Sox 4th or 5th place. They look like could win the central this year, as their pitching has stepped up more than most people expected.....and with Thome and Konerko hitting under the Mendoza line, just think what the middle of that lineup could do when they start hitting............

Any thoughts?

Hey Commanche,

I will ring in with a positive before the deluge of Twinkie "Hater Aid" comes pouring in.

I like what I see and did not expect it, but I guess I did not expect the Kitties to dump so early, though that may just be us putting the usual hurt on them early in the season. They look to have gotten their legs under them thanks to the Twinks. And the Tribe don't seem to be striking fear in anybody just yet, even though I picked them to take the division.

I like our young hurlers so far but it is a long season so I will wait with baited breath and the remote in my hand as I watch each game! LOL

Whaddaya mean? Some of us Cubbie lovers are ChiSox haters.

(Jealousy rears its ugly head sometimes)

How's that go? Almost every team wins one-third of their games and loses one-third --- it's what they do with the last third that matters.

It ain't over yet.

WSox started out looking good. Tigers flopped early.

Still alotta baseball to play.

But it does look like an interesting division this year.

There he is! Welcome back C-Jim. Nice to see you for the first time in a couple years. Oh that's right, the Sox are in first place so you're timing's as expected. grin.gif

I honestly think that the Sox will hit the [PoorWordUsage] out of the ball most of the year. They had the hitters last year to do the same but didn't.

It is their pitching and bad bullpen that will probably let them down.

We'll see, usually it is the team noone thinks will do anything that takes this division.

Geno,

Don't go trying to stir the pot that is not there! I have not been doing any crowing, I said I liked what I see so far, BUT DID NOT EXPECT IT.

You better save some of that Hater Aid and Excuse Juice for when the Cubbies start tanking as the Lord of Leaping keeps injuring his little leg on a routine pop up!

Pier,

I'll take that bet!!!!!!!!!!!

It's going to come down to pitching for them. I, too, think they will hit the ball this year. If our young starters can keep it up, they might have a shot.

What do you think about SKIPPY up on the north side hurting himself making a routine catch......he looks like Grammatica a few years ago blowing out his knee.

What a dope.

Pier,

Pretty bold bet for a team that is 15/2 odds on favorite to win the WS vs a team that is 40 to 1. Sounds like you should at least have a big enough "pair" to give Commanche 5 to 1 on his money since you are only betting on the Kitties finishing above the Pale Hose. But then again, since I know a little about Commanche's financial situation and know nothing about yours I will go out on a limb and say that the C note would mean about 5 times as much to you as to him!!! I got your back Commanche!

Stirring it is Windy, so here I goes:

You trying to stir CJim and Pier by making him give odds is pretty bold talk coming from the guy who declined our Cub/WSox avatar bet....bet you are sorry about that now, right? I guess some of the best bets are those not made. Time will tell.

PS Played Texas Hold 'em for the first time last weekend and got my butt handed to me, or should I say I handed my wallet to the neighbors.

Gene,

You got to know when to Hold Em and know when to Fold Em! LOL

Glad you tried the game, takes an hour to learn and a lifetime to master.

As for Pier and C Jim, I got to watch out for my only Pale Hose brother in this sea of Twinkies and Cubbies! LOL

Just pointing out the fact that the Kitties are one of the odds on favorites to win the whole enchilada, just kind of seems sporting that Pier would give Jimbo at least 5 to 1 odds if not more since all they have to do to win the bet is be ahead of our pitiful Pale Hose who are destined to be the celler dwellers of the Central this year!!! (is it getting deep yet, Geno LOL)

Speaking of odds, I suppose I could let you hoodwink me into an avitar bet with maybe 4 to 1 or at least 3 to 1 on a monthly avitar bet. I win the month and you wear the Pale Hose for 3 weeks, you win and I fly the Cubbie Blue for 1 week. Sounds like a sure thing for you since the Cubbies have searched the ends of the earth and are adding powerful players from every continent to their staggering lineup!

Think it over, don't rush, get back to me by the weekend since both teams are tied right now.

Windy, you take this gambling thing way too seriously.

Asking for odds and noting they are tied today in the same breath? Sheesh, it is getting deep. Putting on my hipboots now.

But my original offer stands and I decline giving any odds.

I do like how you have therefore insinuated my Cubbies are better for the second time now. First by declining the bet and now wanting odds.

PS I like your quote of "hour to learn, lifetime to master"

Please, your Chi-Sox are 16 games into the season and you already want to crown them. Wait until you hit around 60-70 games in and that is when all your old guys will start falling apart. Just wait for Detroit to kick it in gear. Basically it is going to be a battle to see who will finish 3rd.

Wash Up,

Nice to see a rookie step into the forum. Try to get your facts right before you go spouting off, son, cause you are in way over your head here! Who exactly "crowned" the Chi-Sox as you say (I have to give you props for at least not going with the traditional and VERY original Sux that most Twinkie lovers go with). I know I said nothing about them going anywhere and I am sure that Commanche only stated that he thought they would finish above the Kitties. We said nothing about them taking their division, the American League or, perish the thought, the World Series.

Congrats on your 35th post, try to make your 36th a little more informed!

dude,

Us big leaguers don't need no rookie coming in and talking smack. He got put in his place and it's over. Notice I did compliment him on his choice of name usage so as not to scare him off forever, I just want him sitting at the end of the bench and not with us heavy hitters! LOL

Boy...spend a week in Mexico sipping margaritas and you come back to some good ol' fasion FM baseball talk again. Commanche coming out of retirement, Sled and Windy going at it, some new guy already learning that Windy is one of the best slingers in the game (that may not be a compliment Windy :D) and Geno with his Cubbies hat just sitting back and enjoying not having to have his team be the punching bag for awhile while waiting for opportunities to pick the rest of us off if we falter. Where's Buzz when you need him? grin.gif

I guess there are two things that remind me of '95. Sox off to the lead in the Central and Commanche coming to talk baseball. Haven't seen both those things since 2005.

There is one thing that is sure to happen that will remind us all of 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and soon to be 2008. The Sox will find a long stretch of the season to go completely in the tank and if they don't have a 20 game lead like they did in 2005 they will fall out of contention and mail in the last part of the season as usual.

Fishy, pass me a margarita!

Nice to sit back but having built their lead on the flailing Pirates, I know to wait and watch my Cubbies with "eternal" (get it Windy?) hope.

Edited with: Tonight the Met series starts so we'll see if they are really competitve or not.

Also, I don't think I ever answered the post question ---

These are not the 2005 WSox......they are worse!

See, Geno gets it.

He knows better than to rush out and get in line for the World Series tix just yet. Take out the Pirates and the Cubbies are a .500 team, which is not a bad thing for them, should be enough to win the weak sister division known as the NL Central. LOL
