H20c button grinds & pops

zelek

Question

Yesterday I purchased a Lowrance H2Oc gps. I took it home and put batteries in it and started going through the different menus. I noticed that the main "pad" or button with the arrows on it sure makes a lot of noise. It grinds & pops and doesn't seem very smooth at all.

So..I took it back today and exchanged it for a new one. The second one does the same thing!? Is this common for Lowrance?? My five year old Garmin is smooth and makes no noise at all when I work the buttons. *sigh*

The buttons sometimes squeak a little bit when I push them in on mine, but I think that is mainly due to the rubber button coating that keeps water out of the unit. I doesn't make a grinding noise though. Could be the rubber is really tight in the button orifice, making the noise.

I'm pretty sure something is not quite right with this one. Hopefully the noise will go away after it gets broke in a little. Tech support said it's normal...yeah right.

I sure like the way that new 2008 MN Lakemaster chip looks in there though!!

That dosn't sound right at all. I have one and it never makes any noise. Buttons are silent and easy to press. Might want to try and get another from customer service and try it at the counter to make sure they didn't get a bad batch. (sometimes stores will get consecutive units off the production line)

I would exchange it at the store, again, if you're going to do something with it. Could be a couple weeks easy by the time you send it to Lowrance and they send it back. Opener's around the corner.
