Looks like someone in the gray lund had a wee bit of a problem with the anchor rope! We have learned our lesson along time ago, if it feels remotely big, get that anchor out of the water ASAP!

I dont understand pulling the anchor. Positioning the boat was just too much of a pain to want to do it every time we caught a big fish.

We caught a bunch of fish (up to 62) and never once pulled the anchor. I never even really felt it was necessary. Did we just get lucky?

I hear that, I think it's a metro anglers kinda thing!!! I've fished Sturgeonfish up here since the 70's and have seen alot of BIG ones come over the side of the boat and we've never bothered with yanking the anchor. May have to pass the rod from 1 hand to the other under the rode a coupla times but in my book that seems to me to be alot easier than pulling anchors and then having to reset it 15-20 minutes later, that is if your spot was'nt moved in on!!!

Non-issue (IMO) if you are using 1 anchor, but with two it tends to get a bit hairy.

Not only that, but we had an elecric winch in the River Pro, so there was no effort whatsoever, other than flipping a switch.

1 anchor or 2 just would'nt matter to me. I guess I just don't get as excited as some!!!! Crikees I think a guy could just crank them fishes in with some of those XH winch and line set ups I see peoples using out there the past coupla seasons!!!

As with most fishing there are lot's of ways to get r done eh.

Maybe it's got something to do with how you're anchored? Most times we'd be sitting pretty vertically over our anchor (using a Richter). Get a fish close to the boat and they seem to zoom towards the anchor line.

I would imagine if you've got a good amount of line out (like you would with a fluke anchor) so that your anchor is quite a ways from where your boat is sitting, it'd be a lot easier to keep them out of the rope.

We usually pulled because we got several stuck in the ropes last year. I hadn't even thought about it till now, but I'll bet it was due to the fact that we were nearly sitting on top of our anchors. We usually fish in a less popular area, so there wasn't much worry of someone horning in on our spot.

Interesting discussion.

We tried to pull ours whenever we thought that we had something of any size on. It just seemed that the few times we didn't, bammo into the rope they went, and then would wrap around it a few times.

we did have quite a bit of line out most of the time. you're probably right.

Also, I think we were fishing near you guys for awhile on Friday. If that is unpopular, I dont want to see popular... \:o

Ah ya gotta love fish tales.. I thought it was 2 boats, 8 guys and 145 for a total!!! Pretty sure I saw you on Thursday Crazy one. Poor Harv was a 1 boat and 3 guys guy!

Alot may have to do with info and spot on directions one may have aqcuired as well this year maybe too!!

For all you Sturgeonaires from down south....I saw another thread somewhere's saying just how darn easy the fishing is up here as compared to Sturgeon down south, you guys should come up during our other Sturgeon season and see just how you fare maybe?

145.....150 I just rounded. Atleast I didn't say it was 200. I honestly think that the 145 number might have been a little low anyway, cause there were times when it got really hectic in the boat and we forgot to write some down.

Just razz'n ya eh Crazy one!

I know you were anchored down on a very good spot that has put out some whales for many folks over the years. May not have been your crew I'm thinking of though.

Regards....fiskyknut

P.S. Yoe Tyler you out there? What kind of blank is that rod of yours I saw 2 years ago built on?

Were you just a bit downstream from us? I think you're right. Was that the same day the one dude hit that log...twice? That place is way less crowded than the bay!

It seems like they look for the rope when they get near the boat. If that rope is way out in front of the boat, no rope! Things are good. Seems like a better way of running things. When I have my own boat, that's how I'll do things.

Fisky, I'm still kickin.

The rod I build was an SI-3 St Croix. MH 8'6" Salmon rod. I forget the rest of the specs, but crazy built an identical rod with some more details here.
