Were on the board! Just barely. Took a 13.25 lb. jake that came in with my buddies bird which was a 20# three or four year old with 1.25" hooks. A true limbhanger. Getting his first bird was top priority and he shot a nice one. They came in to the decoys with a hen and I told him we weren't going to try to do a 1,2,3 both shoot thing and he should just concentrate on the bigger bird. He let him come right in and drilled him and the the jake takes two quick steps and goes into full strut. Well I admit that got me excited and I grabbed my gun out of the corner of the blind and promptly missed him in strut and about 18 yards, and again when he started running and finally nailed him like a giant pheasant when he got up and flew. It was actually kind of cool to see that even though I would have preferred one shot, one kill. A real good trip with my buddies first bird and nice weather and good company. Will post pics later. How did the jr. catfish do?

MJCatfish, Jr. knocked down a jake this morning as well. 13.5 lbs. He passed on the first jake as there were gobblers in sight. They hung up and retreated so he took the next jake through. The only issue is that he wanted me to smoke it on the grill right away. So, I did. Sure tasted good, also!

Which means. . .although we took regular pictures, I forgot about HOTSpotOutdoors contest pictures. We'll take a picture of the beard and the tail feathers with the tag and the application form. I know it's a little gray as far as the contest goes, and I certainly understand if it is disqualified. But, nonetheless, it was a great time with little man out in the woods. Will post pictures maybe Monday.

Congrats on your hunt 123fish! And congrats on your buddy's bird.

MJ

Good job mnmuzzleloader! I do believe we are three for three. I sent my pics to Borch but I'm getting the feeling he didn't get them. Your turn next fishermuskie keep them coming. Has anyone ever heard from teammate Dan?

Well I got out of the truck and was walking out by a little after 5:00 am. As I was looking across the snowy field I decided to set up in the cedar tree as it was the darkest spot in the field, by 5:30 I had all of the branches trimed and was seated. About 5:40, 5:50 and 6:05 I did some soft yelps, and at 6:07 I herd a gobble \:\) Shortly after that I let out with a louder series of yelps and he gobbled some more, I yelped one more time and put the call down. About 6:15 I looked directly to my right and there he was 8 yards away and he looked directly at me, he was so close I could see his eyes. I thought great he is going to run off \:o but he finaly looked away and took a few more steps towards the decoy grin.gif As he looked away one time I was able to shoulder the 870 he took a couple more steps and I pulled the trigger cool.gif The first pic is of the field with the decoy, you can see the cedar trees behind the decoy were I set up, and the second pic is of the bird and me at the blind, I took the picture with the timer on camera. I sure had fun and don't regret getting my bird within the first 38 minutes of the hunt. Luck is with the Prepared.

Good job fishermuskie. Looks like a great spot to tumble a tom. I wonder if teammate Dan is out there lurking or what's up? Haven't read a peep out of him since this whole thing started. No pressure mjcatfish but 5 for 5 would be very nice.

I'm feeling the pressure! I'm really struggling and only have tonight and tomorrow night to get after it. Been seeing birds, but out of range. Mostly, they have completely ignored my dekes and calling. I'm going commando mode tonight to see if I can get closer.

MJ

Congrats on the bird, fm! Nice snow shots.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
