xedge2002
With the recent trouble McKinney has been in and the new owner not wanting his player involved in controversy what does everyone think of this for a trade:McKinney and our 2nd and 3rd round pick to Miami for the 1st overall. Or McKinney and our 1st to Miami for the 1st overallThen with the 1st overall they could take Long DE. If the vikes still had their 1st rounder they could use that on a tackle or if they don't draft one in later rounds.Don't know if McKinney and our 1st would be enough for Miami or not. Also with a possible suspension coming Miami may be unwilling to deal. Could throw in a conditional pick for next year if he is suspended. If you throw out his off the field [PoorWordUsage] McKinney is actually a pretty good player, hasn't missed hardly any games in his career and doesn't give up a whole lot of sacks. What does everyone think??? Scott K
I wouldnt do it. I would keep McKinney, and all the draft picks. I wouldnt even want the first over all pick, they require a rediculous contract, that isnt worth it.
Sandmannd
I agree with wandering. Not a big McKinney fan, but I don't think you could get the 1st overall with him without giving away the bank. I agree also that the first is always over priced.

Sandmannd
Yea, never thought I'd see that from Birk.
BigWadeS
I wouldn't say he is unhappy, it's the last year of his contract. Where did you hear about him being unhappy? Is it about him not showing up to the voluntary work out session, the same one he has missed in the last 5 years?
Sandmannd
It was on Fox 9 last night. Can't you just show good work ethic in the last year of your contract. I never now if I'm going to have a job next month so I always have to do my job. These players think they need to be extended all the time before they play the last season. I'm not saying I wouldn't sign him, cause I want him around for the rest of his career. I just think he should show and be a team leader.
BigWadeS
He is you also have to take the source of the information, I wouldn't credit any of the news media being 100% accurate in their findings. I think he will be here long term but he shows up to the required meetings and mini-camps in shape and ready to go, this story will be tomorrows butt wipe! Caesarfishinguytoo
Also, correct me if I am wrong - but in the NFL no contract is guaranteed except the guaranteed money. Birk goes into his last year of a contract and has a season ending injury...he is done...If there is any validity to the story I think it is Birk just worrying about his future and family...get a extension and some guaranteed money and all is happy. BigWadeS
I agree it is about taking care of you and your family, but he should be locked up by the Vikes...he has proven to be the most consistent player over his years that they have had in a long time and being from the metro area is another home town favorite vote...IMHO
Sandmannd
Do you really think he has to worry about taking care of his family? Dude makes millions a year. He's making 5.3 mil this year. If that doesn't take care of your family in one year you are doing something wrong. Plus he has resturants and everything else. Like I said, I love the guy but you have to be real with these guys. BigWadeS
what athlete didn't, [PoorWordUsage] if I had the chance, dam right I would demand the millions I feel that I am worth....I would almost bet it wouldn't turn into anything like Iverson....about feeding his family though
Scott K
You are correct, but if we offer him an extension most of the time you dont get a huge gaurentee, so he get get a 10 yr extension and still not get any money if he gets injured.
Sandmannd
I agree wandering. Wade, you big (can't say what I want), that was Spreewell and not Iverson. Though they are both thugs.
BigWadeS
same [PoorWordUsage] different day, anyway all pro athetes worth anything, have seperate insurance policies on themselves incase of injury, so if anyone hears that I need this due to injury they are just trying to double dip in a sense.... Scott K
Now baseball is a different story! It is all gaurenteed money!

I disagree - I believe they do get a nice guarantee and that is the reason he wants an extension to get some more guaranteed $$. Get his $5 to $10 million or more guaranteed. Also in a way to say to take care of his family -- yes he does have millions and the resturaunt, but he is used to a life style. Not to mention he has a Harvard degree so he is a smart man and will never have to worry about $$. But you can't fault the guy for wanting to get paid...if the team can cut him whenever that want...why can't he ask for an extension
SledNeck
If we lost Birk and McKinnie we would be in serious trouble.
tisosy11
Birk and McKinnie are still vikings today. Birk is working out with Mike Morris and will be ready for the season. He feels that he shouldn't have to ask for an extension from the team hes given it to for so long. THe vikings also don't have a reliable back up plan for Center though either...This could definately get interesting!
Coach1310
First off, he is missing VOLUNTARY workouts. He is a veteran who knows what he needs to do to get ready for the season. Secondly, his durability has been suspect, as it is for most guys who have played as long as he has, so I don't think the Vikes want to WOW him with a big contract. It will work its way out and if not, hopefully that have a good backup plan.As for the Trade mentioned at the beginning of this thread...McKinnie's position is a premium in the NFL. I don't like the idea of trading that position. Who knows how anyone of these guys in the draft will pan out. I don't like trading a proven player for a "We'll see" or "he's got the potential" type of players. I think they will sit tight at 17, I just hope Merling is still there, but we'll see. Down to Earth
Neither one of those McKinnie picks would happen in my opinion as Miami would get shorted big time. Using the scenario of trading McKinnie and the 2nd and 3rd round picks puts MN short about 2400 points, which is equivalent to the value between the 2nd and 3rd overall pick, which they would have to value McKinnie's value at. I'm sorry, but I can't see his value that high. Using the first round trade scenario puts the value about 2000 short which would be between pick 3 and 4. So either one of the trades puts McKinnie's "draft value" at a 1.2-1.4 pick which it just isn't.

Birk doesnt have to worry about supporting his family. For starters he owns 2 highly successful restaurants in the Twin Cities, a successful gym and to boot has a degree from Harvard to fall back on. Sandmannd
Anyone who makes a few million a year should never have to worry about his future or family. Birk is a smart guy and has invested his money. His family is well taken care of for years after he is gone I'm sure. I hate hearing athelets complain about not making enough to take care of their family, come live in our world for a while.
FISHINGURU
Birk and McKinnie are both over rated..don't get me wrong they are good but over rated...Mckinnie gets owned by anyone with speed and is a moron....Birk is always hurt and isn't as good as he used to be.but good o-line players are tough to get and they are both good run blockers so we need em.no team with half a brain would take McKinnie in a trade...especially for the 1st overall pick....anyway we won't have our first round pick after we trade it away for allen...woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
