NATHAN SIGNS!!!!!!!!

Just reported, Nathan signs through the 2011 season, with a club option for the 2012 season. Reported $44 million.

This should be a big plus with the young pitching staff we're stuck with.

Didn't hear. There will be a press conference after todays game, probably around 3:00. We'll get more details then.

[uPDATE AT 1:40 p.m.] According to a source with knowledge of negotiations, Nathan will make $47 million over four years. That’s $11.25 million a year from 2008-2011 with a $2 million buyout if the 2012 option isn’t picked up. (Don’t know if the 2012 option also is for $11.25 million or not).

Nathan also gets a limited no-trade clause - he can pick three teams he can’t be traded to. It’s the same clause that was in his previous deal.

Glad to hear that they got him resigned. I think it will help the young guys in the rotation knowing that the bullpen is solid with one of the best closers in the game to shut down the game if they can give them a lead. I think he will also help to be a steadying influence for the bullpen. He doesn't seem like a guy who lets his emotions get away from him. Also the 2012 option is for 12.5M or the 2M buyout. As long as Nathan stays steady I would think 12.5M in 2012 for a closer may be a steal...

Yeah - thats not an outrageous contract at all for a proven closer...

Riveria - 15 m

Jones - 7 m

Rodriguez - 10 m

Hoffman - 7.5 m

Turnbow/Torres/Gagne - 16.4 m

For Nathans ability its a deal...just wait and see what K-rod gets next year...
